A similar thread was done for Battlestar Galactica, thought I'd do one for The Sopranos as this is something I'd like to watch.

So, is it any good? Will I like it?

It's a very character driven series, not particularly fast paced and at times very talkative. That aside the writing is top notch and the acting is excellent and to be honest if you don't get into it within a couple of eps then you won't have to put anymore time in to it, the overall feeling of the series is constant right up to the finale

it's one of my all time series'. The missus and I often have a "soprano day", were we pick a series and watch one after another. Its a league of its own, but like the other guy said, if you dont get hooked after a few, leave it as the later ones rely on you knowing the characters and their pasts. I think of it as the first half of goodfellas, as you can see this mafia fella struggle with day to day tasks with his family etc, but also the flip side where he's a guy you dont cross.

I miss it alot and hope there will be a movie deal sorted out soon

I just bought the complete boxset and have seen the first three eps so far and I love it already. Goodfellas is one of my favourite films and I can see the similarities. I would have thought one would like it if they have previously enjoyed tv shows such as six feet under, oz, rescue me rather than Lost and the like.

Got the whole shebang boxset off this very forum and I'm half way through season 2 and already trying to ration my viewing.

Very good show, Loved the first three seasons, season 4 drops off and becomes a little slow for me, but picks up again toward the end.

Probably the best show to ever be on TV. I didn't think i'd like it but after 1 episiode i was hooked. The acting and the writing is amazing.

Just watch it and find out.

It's not good. It's bloody brilliant! The only thing stopping me from watching the entire series again is the hope a BluRay box set will be released soon.

A lot of the actors in the Sopranos were in Goodfellas including Tony, Paulie, Chris, the woman shrink, and a few others whose name’s I can’t remember.
Even Joe Pesci makes a cameo appearance at some point. That’s another reason to watch it actually, there are a lot of really good actors who make cameo appearances throughout. Anyway if you liked Goodfellas you should love this, IMO the best TV show ever made

Pesci isnt in the Sopranos. Where abouts in Goodfellas are Tony and Paulie? I'm not saying they arent but i dont remember them in it. But i would like to go back and see where they are.

I think anybody who has got a good sense of humour and likes to enjoy watching good storylines with great character building,then this is a must see.Someone who also admired the mob type movies was in for a reality check when i first laid my eyes on this some 10 years ago,you will be shocked,suprised and never going to know any Mafioso's fate,no matter who he is.Badda Bing,it's a shame this has ended after so many years on our screens but there is always room for Amercia's most notorious F.A.M.I.L.Y!

Only just started watching this and loving it big time,cant believe i missed this first time round but pleased i did because i can now watch at my own pace,just hope it stays on track for the rest of the later series.

Aside the from the swearing virtually every other word, it makes great TV. In fact the intro to series two episode one (to Frank Sinatras A Very Good Year, infinitly superior to that over-rated idiot Robbie William's version) is some of the best TV I have ever seen, but you have to watch the first series first.

On dvd deantown currently on season 3 season 1&2 where excellent not sure about 3 yet but doesnt seem as good only up to episode 4 though hope it picks up.

i've just finished season 6.utterly brilliant series,loved it all.apart from one very annoying thing......anthony junior .i was dying for someone to whack him,every series his left eyebrow gets higher,by series 6 i was expecting his eyebrow to be doing it's own scenes.anyway,rant over it's still my favourite series ever-fantastic

Brilliant series, one of the best ever. Definitely want to re-watch one day, but as someone said... I'm half waiting for a Blu-Ray release!
