HBO's Ribbon of Dreams

David Chase, the creator of "The Sopranos," has set his sigts on his next series - "Ribbon of Dreams," about the invention of cinema and the growth of Hollywood. A co-production between HBO, Paramount Pictures and Chase Films.

Quote:
It will begin in 1913 and follow two men, one a college-educated mechanical engineer, the other a cowboy with a violent past, who form an unlikely producing partnership.

The two main characters will begin as employees of D.W. Griffth and will encounter many of the pivotal figures of Hollywood, as movies went from early silent Westerns, through the development of talkies, through the studio system, through the inception of television, through the auteur years of the late '60s and '70s to today. The main characters' careers cross paths with folks like John Ford, John Wayne, Bette Davis, Bill Wilder and Raoul Walsh.

The title comes from an Orson Welles quote, who called film "a ribbon of dreams."

Re: HBO's Ribbon of Dreams

should be interesting to see how close they are with some of the well known faces.

On a side note, i wish the thames tv documentary series 'Hollywood', narrated by James Mason, would be repeated.

I thought the very early days of Hollywood would make a great TV series for a while. Glad to see someone with his skill doing it
