SD Broadcast looking worse?

SD Broadcast seems to be getting worse, and worse. It's getting so bad that I'm waiting for the adverts to come on to check my picture quality.

Adverts.. nice and bright!

Programmes... Brown and foggy looking.

What's going on? Is everyone going to try to push HD now?

Depends on what you're watching. Not everything's shot the same way...

2 shows I'm watching on FiveUSA at the moment look terrible (The Shield & The Beast), but I put that down to how they were shot & the lower bitrate for the channel.

Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

Well G.O.L.D. is getting very bad. You can hardly see the picture anymore. Even their pink logo turns a funny shade of Grey/Pink until the adverts come on.

Mind you G.O.L.D. don't need to sell HD anyway.

Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

On the contrary I think some SD viewing is benefiting by being filmed in HD e.g. planet earth.

Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

G.O.L.D. allways has been crap for quality it must be the worst channel on sky. I guess it's to do with bitrates for that channel ?

Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

It could also be my Virgin Box. The Freeview on my DVD Recorder looks a lot better, but I don't have some of the channels.

Cool Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

Normal terestrial seems to have been getting worse over the the last couple of years it was on channel but now it seems all but digilal seems fine to me. Albeit if I do watch some old programs like Randell and Hopkirk, The Saint etc they do tend not to be that sharp the latter is realy blured at times and some colour bleeding..

Re: SD Broadcast looking worse?

Anyone catch that dire Comic relief Celebrity Dance show thing that was on BBC1 Saturday night...? Picture quality was appaling .

BBC1 SD broadcasts are normally top notch but this was so pixelated it was almost unwatchable. Even my missus who rarely comments on picture quality and refuses to see the difference between SD and HD commented on how bad it was.

Yes! glad it wasn't just me. It was so blocky and pixelated it made youtube look like HD.

But then Comic Relief Does the Apprentice looked so good so I just don't understand.
