Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

I have read some amazing reviews of this show.

Does anyone know when its due to be screened in the UK?

For those that don't know about it, its a 7 part series about the first 40 days in Iraq by a US Marine division. Made by 'The Wire' producers and touted as one of the best TV shows ever.

For me it sounds like a great show for all those who miss Band of Brothers.

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

Yeah, unfortunately episode 7 is being shown this Sunday, so that could be the finale then if it's a 7 parter. I've been following it and have watched a couple, with the others backed up on the PVR. It hasn't grabbed me yet, but it's not pants, so will be watch the rest at some point.

BTW FX do have a tendency to repeat complete series later down the line, so just keep an eye out for a re-run.

Its not what I expected either, but I continued with it and it's actually quite good. If you thought it was going to be a real life "The Unit", then nope, its a lot slower paced, with very little action.

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

Last couple of comments have surprised me after what I had heard about it.

Just goes to show that TV/Films/music is all very subjective. Some hate stuff that others like.

I was imagining it would be like Band of Brothers, but doesn't sound in the same class at all. Might watch a few shows and see if I like it.

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

while not like band of brothers, it is very good in it's own right. if you stick with it past the first couple of episodes and get to know the characters, it is very interesting to see the relationships between the different ranks and how good/bad leaders make such a difference.

i watched it as it was being show in the US and thought it was excellent

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

Horses for courses me thinks! Watched the entire series over Xmas and would say this is an absolute must see - infact probably the best programme I've seen in years.

It is no Band of Brothers (how many other series are though?), much more Jarhead like.

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

i bought this yesterday on dvd and after only seeing one episode i loved it.

The pace is a little slow but it doesnt matter as the banter between the marines is brilliant.

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

I tried to watch it, but I found them intensely annoying. They come across as an unlikable, trigger happy, bitchy, insubordinate, indiciplined rabble. How true that is to the real US military I don't know, but it hits all the stereotypes head on.

Believed to be pretty much what Evan Wright encountered though ...

I'd be surprised if the team behind the Wire would produce something too far from the truth

Re: Gneration Kill - when and where in the UK?

Very well made series IMHO, and I'd expect nothing less from the creators of The Wire. Solid performances throughout.

It won't be everyone's cup of tea. It plays out almost like a documentary - as if you've been dumped into a hum-vee with the marines. If you want crash bang action, this probably isn't for you.

Like The Wire, the dialogue is exposition-free. It makes no allowances for a lack of understanding - you've just got to stick with it and hopefully pick things up as you go along.

Reading Evan Wright's Rolling Stone article help. Will definitely be picking up the book too.

And I just loved the use of The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash in the last episode.
