Sky Sports and Italian Football

I would like to know why there is no Italian football on Sky Sports, I mean they have it on Sky Sports Italia.

Re: Sky Sports and Italian Football

There are limits to what SKY Sports can show or afford and for the last few years La Liga has been their choice as the main overseas footy coverage, the strength of the Spanish league and turmoil and poor performance of Series A may have made the choice very easy.
I assume if SKY were interested (or any UK broadcaster) a package could be offered which didn't have all the issues with clubs selling their own games as they see fit.

BSKYB and SKY Italia are independent companies who have a common shareholder.

Re: Sky Sports and Italian Football

Italian teams sell there own tv rights to whoever they want to..They do not have a joint deal like the premiership with Sky.
I think in 2011 or 12 they will have a deal in place like ours and the money involved will be alot more than what Sky pay the premier league so say goodbye to expensive foreign players as they will all be going to Italy where the money will be...

BBC Three showed the Milan derby last week.

Thereby spending all their money for live football in one go, no doubt........

Re: Sky Sports and Italian Football

Sky Italia is not the same thing as Sky UK.

The rights to the Serie A season are available to anyone who wants them. The only club which causes any difficulty in this respect are Napoli - their home games are unavailable to some, not all, broadcasters.

After Channel 4's days of showing Serie A, Eurosport then Bravo then Five picked up the rights. They all cancelled after a season or three. Five had the rights to this season but didn't take it up, leaving this the first full season that Serie A wasn't on some UK TV channel since Ch4 started in the early 80s.

If you're keen on watching Serie A, you can pick it up on quite a few foreign satellite channels.

Re: Sky Sports and Italian Football

Check out the satellite forum for much more info. Basically, you need a dish and multi-LNBs capable of receiving from other satellites. Or a motorised dish which will turn to point at different satellites. Your Sky / Freesat setup will receive from 28 degrees East only.

LJ's sport TV site *** L.J.s LIVE Sport on Satellite TV. Live Soccer on TV. Live Football on Saetllite TV. will tell you what games are on and what channels are showing them, Lyngsat LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite will give you an idea of what satellites are out there.
