Cropped on good ol' BBC.

Should be in cinemascope.

This version is the best currently on dvd.

My wife has a huge thing about this. She regard's Gladiator and Fall as the very same plot. We saw part of The Fall at her Dad's today and it was pretty bad. The music was often 40's jazz and Mason's hand healed itself no bother.

Other than than that it had a huge amount of British acting talent in it doing their very best with the material.

Total regards

Well the starts the same goes astray in the middle and comes back at the end.
I was reading up on the film and Samuel Bronstan was making it as a fellow up to El Cid but Charlton Heston wanted to do 55 Days at Peking, I thing Kurt Douglas was also approached.
If you noticed some of the actors from El Cid were in it e.g. Sophia Loren and Douglas Wilmer

I did not think the music was jazz but a lot of the basic tunes use by Dimitri Tiomkin were used in music he used in his cowboy films, think a lot were John Wayne’s, the main theme is good though conveying grandeur and tragedy.

I did not think it was a bad film at all just went on a bit too long, probably the same length as El Cid but did not have the charisma of El Cid to carry it though the quitter parts..

Thought it funny how really the hero paned out, wanting to kill rather than make peace, killing is own men at the start of the film.

In real life Marcus Aurelius was classed as the last of the 5 wise emperors.

This is also in the same series as the El Cid one, which is a very nice box set. The the film starts with an overture, and as the film is split over 2 disc has an interlude like in the cinema.

It wasn't jazz throuhout. There was one scene in particular that had a jazz feel and jarred badly with the images. Having said tha I love the ballet Spartacus and parts of the score remind me very much of Gershwin.

Cheers

Nice little collection the Weinstein company are releasing/have released. The Miriam M collection is dediacated after their late mother(nice touch).

These need the bluray treatment, only because we shouldn't have to change discs halfway through, not in this day and age anyhoo.
