Cool THE FUGITIVE - 1963 Original TV Show Repeats On Sky!

Hi,

For those of you who grew up in the 1960's, on the likes of THE INVADERS, DRAGNET and its ilk, you should (hopefully) be thrilled to learn that Zone Thriller (Sky EPG Channel 148) has aquired the UK rights to air all 120 episodes of the original, untainted classic TV drama series THE FUGITIVE starring David Janssen and Barry Morse!

Now, although Season 1 and the first half of Season 2 exist on Region 1 DVD, apparently a) there are no extras included, and b) some of the episodes have been edited, altered and modified, due to copyright issues.

Therefore, this will be the first time (probably since the original UK showings) that this classic piece of black-and-white TV has been shown, uncut, uncensored and untainted, exactly as it was back in 1963! For those reasons, and providing you don't object to the Zone Thriller DOG, I highly recommend recording these transmissions for posterity, if you fancy having a cheap(er) set of this show on DVD to watch (and in a superior PAL format, over NTSC)!

Episodes have already started to air! However, a complete Season 1 repeat will start to air from Wednesday 1st April at 6pm each night, every weekday! But, episodes only air once! Some repeats may be scheduled at the weekends, but don't count on it at the moment!

If you've only seen the film with Harrison Ford, this has got to be worth your time!

Pooch
I don't have this channel but I wouldn't watch because of the Pooch, sorry dog. In all seriousness I hate logos. Colour logos over b&w material is paticularly bad. I can't decide which is the worst, edited or dogged. They both destroy it.

Your thread's reminded me of the film Marooned with Jannsen. I loved it back then. I would if it stands up today?

All the best
Bri

Cool Re: THE FUGITIVE - 1963 Original TV Show Repeats On Sky!

I saw them repaeted a bit back and enjoyed them, a lot of the stories are abiut the charaters and not shoot ups every second. Personaly I liked it, unfortunatly they only repeated a season and then snuck the last 2 ever at an other time and I missed them

The series was based on Les Miserables in which a fugitive is doggedly perused buy a policeman.

The theme tune brilliant and the casting of the two leads were spot on

these old and recent posts of mine at the DVD bargains forum might be of interest (http://www.avforums.com/forums/dvd-m...oolworths.html) ...

TRANSFERRED FROM THE ORIGINAL NEGATIVE WITH RESTORED AUDIO.

MUSIC HAS BEEN CHANGED FOR THIS HOME ENTERTAINMENT VERSION.
SOME EPISODES MAY BE EDITED FROM THEIR ORIGINAL NETWORK VERSIONS

from Wiki (regarding R1) ...
Currently, Republic Pictures and CBS Paramount Television own the rights to the series (while CBS themselves now own the copyright); CBS Home Entertainment (with distribution by Paramount) released Season 1, Volume 1 on DVD in Region 1 in late 2007. Reviews of the first DVD set have been very positive as the show appears uncut and uncompressed, re-mastered from the original negatives and magnetic soundtrack, although a disclaimer by CBS mentions some episodes are "edited from their original broadcast versions" and some music changed for home video. (Incidental music was altered in at least two episodes, Where the Action Is and The Garden House.) There are no subtitles or alternate languages, and the "liner notes" consist merely of TV-Guide-style episode synopses inside the four-disc holder. Season 1, Volume 2 was released on February 26, 2008. Season 2, Volume 1 was released on June 10, 2008. Many reviews of this third DVD set were highly negative due to the replacement of the original used music tracks with the aforementioned synthesizer music.

I was wondering if others had pre-ordered this around the time of my OP, and also had this pleasant surprise of the full first season in the post this morning

Not the case for S1, as posted above, I have the full season 1 on R2 DVD (online prices @ The Fugitive - Series 1 Vol.1 DVD - is actually the full season, 30 episodes across 8 discs in an M-Lock type case, despite various retailers incorrect description of it as Vol.1)

- S2 Vol.2 will be out on R1 DVD on 31st March 2009

As also mentioned above there is a disc replacement programme: CBS Home Entertainment | The Fugitive: Season Two - Volume One
- which apparently will also later be available for S2 Vol.2 (which is also being released with changed music)

And that in turn was the basis for The Increadable Hulk
