In the Heat of the Night

Sky are really pulling out all the stops with the old greats, to make my HD experience worthwhile. At the moment we've The Big Country and In the Heat of the Night....two excellent films and first class entertainment, especially the latter.See Rod Steiger(academy award) and Sidney Poitier at their peak in this gripping story of murder and race hatred in the Deep South in the late 60s.Unlike films with a similar theme this is not an uncomfortable or unpleasant film to watch but sheer entertainment from start to finish.Make sure you see it!Highly recommended

Re: In the Heat of the Night

Well, they're advertised as HD and are a damned sight better than DVD so I presume genuine HD.

Native HD.
Just having a look through the "Oscar Season" and there are some decent classic movies being shown.
Not a well known movie but The High and the Mighty" is the daddy of the Airplane type disaster movies and stars John Wayne. Screened on the 18th at 9.10am and before that is Tora Tora Tora, quality WW2 action.

Re: In the Heat of the Night

The High and the Mighty was a huge hit in the early 50s.I watched this out of sheer curiosity last year and enjoyed it but it is extremely dated, corny and I actually found some of the scenes quite cringing at times but they were different days with much more innocent audiences.Anyone of a vintage age (like me) will still enjoy it if only to see a youngish John Wayne in action.I think the music won an oscar or at least was very well received at the time.

Re: In the Heat of the Night

First time I saw it was last year on SKY, never came across it on terrestrial or when buying so many John Wayne DVD's. In fact I think I first heard the movies name when it was mentioned in the an article along with Zero Hour which was the inspiration for Airplane.

Gonna record it though and watch it in HD sometime between the cricket and footy

Re: In the Heat of the Night

Worth watching for the "they call me MISTER Tibbs" scene. Sidney Poitier was a brilliant actor.
