Cool Straw Dogs on TV

Look out this weekend for the documentary on the controversial film Straw Dogs on CH 4 on the 9th August at 11.20pm called Man Trap-Straw Dogs and the following evening the film itself at 11.15pm.

Cool

Without rechecking my source Nick I think it is. Also notice the late time of showing.

Update It is going to be shown un-cut.

Great movie. If you like it I should mention that the Criterion R1 DVD is an exceptional transfer and also includes the documentary.

Even allowing for a film becoming dated, I wasn't particularly struck by it. I could even say I was bored.

I can only imagine the 'violence' of the set pieces in the film were big talking points at the time.

However, by today's standards, I am so desensitised that it didn't really show me anything new or 'totally shocking' to make me say,....'Wow'.

At the end of the film I was wondering what the big deal was with banning it.
It was a so-so film which most of these 'banned' films seem to be.

I watched it for the first time last night (bless the TiVo). I admit that the film dragged a bit in the middle, but it's still a great flick. I'm a big Peckinpah fan anyway, though. The documentary was pretty good too.

Speaking of that, did it make any sense to show the documentary the night before the actual film? Wouldn't it make more sense to do it the other way around? Seeing that I'd never seen Straw Dogs before, I obviously watched the film before the documentary. Good thing, too, because it would have ruined it the other way around.

I don't think the level of violence was the issue with the censors.

It was the fact that by the end of the rape scene it looked like she came to enjoy it - and they were worried that this would have sent out the wrong message.

I thought it was an excellent film - although I can't quite say why I enjoyed it so much. I think it was the way that the situation escalated from everything being calm at the start, changing slowly but surely to the extreme violence at the end. It was extremely well done

Why on earth was it banned. I have sen more violence in a John Wayne western. Very very mild not at all shocking. Very silly story line. Much ado about nothing.........Gotta go now to erase it...
