This is a good idea as long as they don't go for dodgy sets and too much of the "gritty". I doubt if the original star trek premiered now that people would settle for such out of date sets and effects. They need to bear in mind that television has progressed 25 years and that Red Dwarf carried on and overtook the B7 traditions. It won't get away with having only 3/4 main characters and 2 locations anymore.

Cool

It’s a shame some of the other cast are not back especially Villa.

Yes there are ways round that ending, one easy one would be them all connected to a mind link machine which played out scenarios to see who are friend or foe. But as it was you never saw what happened you just heard the gun blast.

Did they ever have stun settings?

Gritty is good. It wasn't until DS9 that the Star Trek people figured out it would make things more interesting if the characters didn't always agree with each other.

Blakes' Seven went downhil once Blake left, though - the ongoing conflict between Blake and Avon was what really gave it teeth.

(Of course the loss of Stephen Greif as Travis didn't help either. Brian Croucher was no substitute.)

Avon has to be one of the best characters ever in the genre of sci-fi.He was one devious barstool and the way he mixed doing good
things only because of blake and shafting everyone else at the same time was great. The sets were dr who type crappyness and far better storys than dr who.

Did avon have a thing for blake.

My cousin was playing in the orchestra for a pantomime in which Gareth whatshisname who played Blake was appearing as King Rat. He told a bunch of them in the bar one night that Blake's 7 was the biggest piece of crap he'd ever appeared in.

Was pleased to know I wasn't the only one who thought (even as a kid) that it was completely and utterly pants...

But that's what made it so good! Nobody was guaranteed to survive every episode and the 'formula' could change at a moments notice. It made the series SO muh more watchable. Take "Orbit" for example. When Avon is loosing weight to get into orbit and Orac tells him Villa could be shed, how many people could honestly say Villa would survive? And of course the relationship between Villa and Avon changed forever after that...

Believe me I love Star Trek but how often, when one of the main leads is in peril, do you think they are actually going to die? Only Tasha Yar AFAIK. With Blakes 7 you never had that certainty so it was different.

I just hope this revival doesn't interfere with the (delayed) Blakes 7 boxsets!

Just in an update to this story - looks like they are planning a Computer Game based on the series as well:

Not sure if this counts as a spoiler for the end of the old series, but just incase...

At the end, wasn't Avon surrounded by soldiers? All he had to do was duck and they would have shot each other! He could then have his way with Servelan (sp?)

I really enjoyed the old series, and am looking forward to its DVD release :D

One particular memory of B7 was Servelan's large clusters....
