According to imdb we will only see the 108 minuite 12A rated version in UK cinemas - in the US, there's an R rated 125 minuite version!

Having seen it , I can't see which 17 mins they can cut out, There's not a great deal of gore in it, no sexual references, and apart from the usual terminator with missing flesh shots, nothing to appear unpleasant. Unless of course they cut the chase scene (which is very good) in an effort to reduce joyriders!!!!

i knew it was r rated in the usa because it says the r rating affected its box office,i hate it if the uk version has been cut down just so tat kids can watch it,damn bbfc.

If it has been cut to allow a younger audience then it will not be the BBFC to blame but the distributor. The BBFC would have gladly passed it with a 15 or 18 certificate as it was I am sure, but it is the distributor's decision to cut the film if they are seeking a lower rating.

Ah well I will not be seeing it at the cinema but I will wait for the un-cut version on DVD, and what I would have paid to see it at the cinema will go towards it.
Does any one else thing the crane scene looked bad value for money.

The bbfc claim that it is not cut either by them or the distributor. I would trust them more than the imdb. It seems to me that the filmmakers were aiming for a PG-13 all along but got cold feet when they realised how the fans would react. Do you honestly think that they would cut 17 minutes out of the film? The bbfc would refuse even if the distributor asked... If it was being distributed by warner I wouldn't be suprised if it was cut for a lower cert but I don't think it is usual for Columbia to censor their films for a lower cert.

Could it be that we are getting the same verion as the US R rated version but it's been passsed as a 12A by the BBFC? Is there any possibility that the (possible) cuts have been done by the director? Empire say it's 90mins long in their review! Anyone got the facts?

couldnt the 17 minutes difference be anything to do with a conversion from ntsc to pal? films are often shorter for this reason (ntsc=23.97fps, pal=25fps)

I think we are talking Theatrical run time, in which case NTSC and PAL wont come into it.

I've checked on bbfc, and looked at imdb.

Both have the same thearitcal run time of 107/8 minutes (according to the people on the imdb boards and having no cuts on bbfc website).

I think it has been kind of guessed that the 125 run time is the film with extra footage (for a DVD release?)

So we'll be getting the same version as the States (phew)

What confuses me how the same film can get an R in the States and a 12 over here??!!

I swear, someone could go mad trying to make sense of film classification

Hi,

An "R" rating in the US means that kids can see it if they are accompanied by an adult. Rather like our 12A rating. NC-17 films are for adults only and aren't particularly sought by US distributors due to a substantial loss of revenue.

Why do i get this nagging feeling inside me which says i'm going to be buying Terminator 3 on dvd and then 6 months later i'm going to be buying Terminator 3 - Special Edition to be followed a year later by Terminator 3 - Ultimate Special Edition, and 6 months after that release Terminator 3 - The Extreme Edition.
At least the makers of Lord of the Rings informed us all there was going to be a longer cut of it available on dvd and i was able to put off my purchasing of it why oh why are some film companies greedy b a s t a r d s .

All this 'bother' about 15 minutes (or whatever) cuts......isn't that exactly what happened to T2? 17 minutes (or whatever) added back in to the 'directors edition', first on Laserdisc, then on DVD, and later a few more 'lost' minutes added for DVD. Doesn't the same thing happen with a significant number of films? Leon is another significant example. What's so special about T3?

I think it's more to do with people thinking that 17 minutes had been cut to get a lower rating for cinema release in UK only.

Stuff like T2 Directors Cut are brought about at a later date through popular demand and the dreams of more money

I enjoyed it - although not as good as the first 2, as an action movie (which is all it is) I think its the best of the summer blockbusters.

THE FACTS SO FAR.............

1.) IMDB frequently shows multiple running times for new movies. There currently doing exactly the same for Pirates Of The Carribean.

2.) The US prints of T3 is rated "R". The UK print is 12A. It contains (according to mellonfarmers) 3 "****s".

3.) Other US films rated "R" have been rated 12 in the UK. EG. "The Last Of The Mohicans" and "Wyatt Earp".

CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS........

I have left several messages with the press office at Sony Pictures UK, to determine whether the UK print is identicl with the US.

I cannot see myself a distributor making such a radical re-edit to a film. It must incurr large costs.

Bottom line, the content has probably been toned down by studio directive. IE they just didn't want to make as violent a picture as the two prequals. A broader action base gets more dumb kids butts on seats.

I have access to a copy of T3. I view it tonight then post any further relevant details.

Having seen it last night at a preview at my local cinema.... I'd be very surprised if it had been pre-cut by the distributor for a UK release. There's no way the MPAA would give T3 a PG-13 as far as I could see, and I'm surprised it got a 12A. It's incredibly violent, at times very bloody, and I think I noticed quite a few instances of bad language in the few quiet bits between the explosions.
What I watched is as strong as most R rated movies I've seen. The BBFC never cease to surprise me.
I thought Hulk was pretty strong for a 12 aswell.

I'd imagine a 120 minute version would have been a rough cut

Yeah, Id agree with that, after watching it I thought it was quite strong for a 12a certificate..mind you there were no headbutts in it so maybe thats why no 15 cert.

SO I would assume 12PG films under 12's may go in unaccompanied where as in a 12A under 12's must be accompanied.
