RIP Oliver Postgate creator of The Clangers

Tuesday December 09, 2008
RIP Oliver Postgate creator of The Clangers
Bagpuss, Ivor The Engine, Noggin The Nog, The Clangers - hugely influential TV shows that shaped more than one generation of children. Oliver Postgate brought us all these characters, often in collaboration with model-maker Peter Firmin. He worked with both the BBC and ITV from the 1950s until the present day, and we composed one of our Time Machine features about him last year, celebrating those knitted, stop-motion alien mice, The Clangers (first broadcast in 1969). As Postgate voiced most of the productions himself, his distinctive voice has become familiar to millions. He died at his home in Broadstairs, aged 83.

The man is a legend,Bagpuss, Ivor The Engine, Noggin The Nog, The Clangers.

The Clangers was hilarious,in a drug induced kind of way.

Classics of the time

It was part of Watch With Mother. I doubt if it was still going in the 70's. I've just checked and I've found out it stated as The Pogles before it changed to Pogle's Wood.

Cheers

A bit too early for me.

Mister Benn was another classic.

His Noggin The Nog use to creep me out as kid even now when I here the music from it I get a slight uneasy feeling. Seem a lot of kids grew up in part with one of his cretions.

Re: RIP Oliver Postgate creator of The Clangers

A very sad loss.

Also a child of the 70s, and have very fond memories of Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss especially, but also watched a bit of The Clangers and Noggin the Nog.

Watching all the clips over recent nights on various tributes has really taken me back. Happy times.

R.I.P.
