With Christmas coming i am hoping to buy my Chilean aunt-in-law a DVD boxed set for her to watch on her 50" plasma (lucky cow). I could get her a UK series but thought it would be a nice gesture to find a Spanish or South American epic that might not be so easy to find over here.

The first one that came to mind was Betty la Fea, which of course the Yanks remade as Ugly Betty, but my auntie isn't into comedy so much. So can anyone recommend a high-quality South American or Spanish long-running serial drama that I could obtain from, say, dvdgo? Their website has loads of boxed sets but no synopses at all so I have no idea what they are selling.

All suggestions gratefully considered.

At the moment, I can only think of the Spanish serial "Cuéntame cómo pasó", which is very well regarded in Spain and it's something worth having on dvd, IMO (it faithfully depicts the society during Franco's dictatorship).

I don't know how difficult it would be to get them in UK, though Plus, being Chilean is not being Spanish, so I don't really know how interesting this could be.

Sorry, I can't think of anything else... Maybe I have been too long in Germany
