Darkness Falls: Hmmmmmmm!!

Watched Darkness Falls last night for the first time. Started off great, good plot line, had potential to be an absolute ripper of a horror movie. But yeeee, haaaaa!!! The yanks manage to make into another classic horror like Ghostship" . It was so predictable from the half way point. Anyone else have the same opinion or was it just me.

The front of the DVD (region 1) states...
Runs rings around "The Ring"

I think not. As soon as you get to see the "monster" it lost all the tension it built up in the first half. The Ring on the other hand carried it off very well (IMO).

I thought it was great. In fact I'm watching it now.

Ghost ship was good too. I don't really think you know what you are talking about, MarkR.

I'm going to give you a little lesson in quality movies. You should watch the likes of The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Lord of the Rings Saga and all the others that seemed to have conned their way into the box offices of the past. The plot lines are so thin, I'm surprised to have a pulse by the end of them!

Now look at Darkness falls and Ghost Ship. You seriously cannot tell me that you weren't gripped by these works of art.

I just wish that they made more like these. Well done to the two genious directors!!!

I've not seen the original yet, but have heard it's scarier.
Actually, I was surprised how scary the remake was. I was expecting another wimpy American version complete with valuable life lessons and a happy ending. How wrong I was.

Yeah I know, I thought that as well. I must admit the part at the end where she started to climb out of the TV set really sent a chill up the old spine, must be one of the only horror movies that have done that.

Yep, excellent scene. I know some people in the forum said it wasn't scary at all but The Ring is easily the film that's freaked me out the most. It would be interesting to know which horror films those people find scary.

It's all very subjective since not everyone is afraid of the same stuff - I suppose that's why The Blair Witch Project did so well. It's up to the viewer to stick in their own fears and make their own custom made evil force.

I thought it had a bit more atmosphere and edge over the remake. Maybe the originality and lower budget contributed to it being a better movie imo. I'm not nocking the remake - i thought that was well made and a lot better than a lot of Horror stuff to come across the pond recently.
I'll be interested to see how the remake of Dark Water goes.

Apologies ...do not wanto to hijack the thread.....

I was scared to hell with The Ring and I know why.It was the music played over the 'video' footage which sent shivers down the spine and then at the end when she comes out of the TV coupled with the music AND the way she moves is just shocking IMHO.
By the way SCI-FI channel has been showing all the Ringu films (Ringu 0, Ringu and Ringu 2). Havnt seen the origional Ringu and Ringu 2 didnt affect me much. However did get hit at the end of Ringu 0 .... spoiler alert.....

The girl appears in the hut (near the well) and moves in a very disturbing way which is much more effective than all your makup and special effects do IMHO.....
