Exclamation John From Cincinnati - Anyone watching it on FX (UK)?

Hi,

Did anyone else watch the new David Milch (creator of "Deadwood") drama series on FX last night, called "John From Cincinnati"?

I watched it, and have to say, that although the cast is very good, with the likes of Luke Perry, Rebecca DeMornay, Ed O'Neill and Bruce Greenwood, etc, I did find this Pilot Episode a tad confusing. It was only by the very end of it, that it began to come together, as a cohesive whole.

It's very dark in tone, the humour is very limited to the occasional mild grin, rather than something outrageously hilarious, and the swearing is almost as graphic as that of "Deadwood" (plenty of f-words, and one c-word here, so not for the kiddies, folks!). And the characters, frequently speak or rather mumble stuff, in the kind of surfer-dude style that the show is set in, making it difficult to work out what is being spoken. (Or maybe that's just me?)

This could be a great show, and has been described as a "Twin Peaks" for the 2000s. For those of you who have seen it via other methods, does the show improve, become easier to follow, or what?!

It helps when you get more familiar with the characters but you never really get a clear picture of who "John" is, yes you can make a very educated guess but it's interpreting what you see and that isn't always the truth and who knows how the writers could have spun the same situations if given the chance.

I enjoyed the series and would rewatch if it turns up on their HD channel, it's bizarre enough to be interesting.

I saw the first episode last night and have to say it was strange enough to make me watch the next episode, very odd.

I must be, just have no faith in FXHD especially after the very poor Burn Notice broadcasts which I've stopped watching.

Thanks for the headsup though, I'll add it to the planner and hope for the best.
Just noticed the first season of Regenesis is also in HD, you know that's the problem with limited advertising coupled with extensive DVR use

As one of the original fans of John From Cincinnati when it aired in the US June 2007, I was so impressed with the show that, for the first time in my life, I went to find others online to learn more about the show.

We still have quite a thriving community over here and would love to talk to any of you who want to know more.

Our main site is: SaveJFC.net - Homepage

But we usually gather to talk over on the HBO boards at:

John From Cincinnati in HBO Community Home

Hope you stop by for a chat...

Its a slow burner and I'm still getting used to all the characters, but its very intriguing. By the sounds of this thread it's been dropped has it? Same happened with Journeyman, which I sort of lost interest in as it I knew it wouldn't go any further..

Great cast, great script, great characters - no idea what's going on, but it's absolutely brilliant.

Surprise, surprise - it's been cancelled in the US.
