Stan Lee's Gay Superhero Show

Showtime enlists gay superhero
Stan Lee to produce hourlong series
By DANIEL FRANKEL

Showtime is developing an hourlong project from comicbook icon Stan Lee that tracks the life of a gay superhero.
Project is being exec produced by Lee and the president and CEO of his Pow! Entertainment banner, Gill Champion.

Story, which focuses on an up-and-coming superhero who struggles to hide his secret identities, is based on the book "Hero" by Perry Moore.

Moore is penning the script and also exec producing along with Hunter Hill.

Previous series television produced by Lee includes whimsical reality-competish skein "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?," which ran on the Sci Fi Channel from 2005-07.

The comicbook maven is in development on several features for Paramount, including "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and a sequel to last summer's "Iron Man."

Project joins more than a half-dozen others in development at Showtime, including a series retelling of "Camelot" from "Tudors" creatives Michael Hirst and Morgan O'Sullivan.

Good to see all that stuff in producton . I find it hard to get excited these days though as they are so hit and miss.

I still cant believe someone like Stan Lee was involved in the "who wants to be a superhero " utter rubbish IMO.

The way they ruin things like six million dollar girl or whatever it was called.

These could either be fantastic or rubbish I spose it just depends if there in it for the bucks or want to make something worthy or the superhero brands we all love.

Im also wondering is there a point to the gay superhero thing or is it just because of the time we live they feel the need to come up with one ?

Hopefully its good though

I think there is already a gay superhero in the comic mags. I've read about it and I think it maybe DC rather than Marvel. In my day there was no sex at all in these let alone gay stuff. I didn't have a clue about sex in those days let alone gays. Just shows how things have moved on.

I gather there's a bigger adult audience for the comic mags these days which may explain it. I think it's great that someone of Stan's age can have such an open mind.

Cheers

Yes I do agree mate all im hoping and was saying is that hes doing it for the right reasons.

I know Stan Lee is a god to many and hard to criticise but IMO he did do the reality thing just for more money as was rubbish and I hope hes not doing a gay superhero for similar reasons.

I didnt know the sexuality of superheros when I was young I still dont see the need BUT if hes doing it in a complex way that is integral to the story fine if its a gimmick then not cool.

Some of those children maybe gay. It might well be great to know they're not alone. It could also foster a tolerance towards gay people within those who are straight. When I was a kid it was very much swept under the carpet and there was so much hostility against them. It must still be tough now but I'm glad I'm straight so I didn't have to suffer that oppression back then. Ten percent of the world's population can't all be wrong.

That's exactly the kind of intolerance I'm talking about. Just think what it would be like if the situation were reversed. You'd have to pretend to be gay to fit in.

I'd hate to pretend I was someone I'm not just to fit in. I don't think people can choose their sexuality anymore than they can choose the colour of their skin.

By pure coincidence I already had Justice League, New Frontier already loaded in my PS3 when MP posted. A superhero film about tolerance. My enjoyment of it may have been heightend by those very posts.

The only rubbish is from your biggoted posts, complaining about a black presenter for the gadget show and a character being gay in a superhero film. The world will be a much better place when people like you no longer exist.

He didn't use those words but he said that adding the new presenter Ortis Deley to the gaget show was typical pc nonsence. As far as I can see his skin colour is the only thing that makes his sentence make sence.

The fact he just proved himself a biggot on this thread just further backs that up.

Many years ago I remember seing John Barrowman as a presenter on Saturday mornig TV. I thought he was rubbish at it but I doubt if they picked him to be PC. Every presenter got to start somewhere.

As this only seems obvious to you, that says more about your racist attitudes than about the programme being "pc".

At least you are being consistent in your bigotry.

Even if we think he is incompetant it doesn't mean he was chosen because of his colour, you can pick dozens of terrible white people out in any field and wonder how they were the best person for the job, thats the same no matter what the colour of your skin. Mark Blundell presenting the f1 for example.
