I questioned that aswell, why some characters are separated. Ben also was with Jack on the mainland, and on the plane, but now they are not together.

Time travelling is always going to be unpredictable!

I just watched it twice and all i got out of it was that this could be why the misstrust on the island got out of hand, keeping things quiet then things explode when the truth gets out. Sawyer loves the power, briliiant character.

Well Ben couldn't go back as he'd meet himself as a kid so maybe Sun is on the island as a kid aswell?

I think that Sun didn't return to the time with everyone else, because she didn't have her baby with her. When she left the island she was pregnant and therefore must return with the baby.

OoooH good theory. But then what about Kate and ~~Charlie~~ Baby Aaron? I know that ~~Charlie~~ Baby Aaron isn't Kates, but still.. or does ~~Charlie~~ Baby Aaron count as a seperate "entry" if you like? Where as Sun + kid was one "entry".
