LA LIGA on SKY SPORTS. NO HD AGAIN??

The new La Liga season is almost upon us and as ever i cannott wait. I see there is no HD coverage yet again. Is this down to the fact there is no HD coverage available or is it just SKY been tight and saving money. I love la liga but the PQ is truly awful most of the time.

Anyone know the answer? cheers.

cheers. So it seems sky can recieve an HD feed but Dont due to cost and the lack of HD studio. To be fair though, i dont really give a damn if the Studio is HD or not as long as the game is in HD. Come on Sky give your paying customers what they require. Why should we have to watch poor PQ when quality PQ is available.

I would much rather watch a match from La Liga than the Premier League to be honest. They don't put that much emphasis on defense and organisation and you therefore see far more exciting football. A perfect example of this was Zaragoza v Real Madrid near the end of last season. Come on Sky, show it in HD then you can advertise that all your live football is in HD.

Like others here, I much prefer Liga matches to Premier so I am not happy that Sky don't seem to be showing the matches in HD.

What is really frustrating is that the trails that Sky are running at the moment for their Sports coverage in HD actually shows Robinho playing in a Real Madrid shirt! Granted, if you wanna see Robinho now you'll need to watch a Premier match anyway

but I sincerely hope that Sky start showing Liga matches in HD otherwise it seems to me that we are victims of false advertising

The PQ for the games last weekend were dreadful. Particulary the Depor vs Real madrid game. Sky have got to sort this out. Wheres the upscaling as well??? The pictures look no different on the HD channels as they do on SD.

anyone got info on when/which channel the matches will be broadcast?
I'm loath to use that EPG thing, it takes ages and manages to both annoy me with its long winded ways :|.

As far as I know SKY haven't even secured the contract for the UK rights to the league and lets face it if the price has gone up then SKY have been known to walk away because La Liga has nothing like the pulling power of the PL.

ESPN could also looking to get the rights, more footy especially the higher end European leagues could boost their portfolio and of course with SKY making money from an Dsat ESPN subscription....

As SD says, nobody has the rights yet. I read in the Times earlier about how there's only 6 days left til the season starts and nobody has secured the rights

Apparently it's £15m for Sky and they won't cough up...yet

I thought Sky got a 3 year deal or something about a year or so ago??? Im sure I remember something on revista saying it will be with us a for a few years??

It cannott go to ESPN. Sky gave us fantastic coverage plus revista was an excellent round up show.

come on sky, its the bloody best league in the world by far. How many 0-0 bores will our fantastic Prem produce this season??? More than la liga that is a cert.

If Sky does not get La Liga then they are mad.

I hope ESPN do get the rights as Sky's PQ for this is awful, the only real weak point in their otherwise excellent sports coverage.

It wouldn't be the worst thing if ESPN do take this over. The PQ could not be any worse and with any luck they might even show it in HD. Having said that I think Sky do a great job with the overall presentation and the midweek Revista programme. I would also be loathe to see Gerry Armstrong go if that were the case.

Looks like the matter has been sorted. The EPG now shows live games being on Sky on Saturday and Sunday. The EPG has changed since I looked earlier on. According to the EPG they are being shown in widescreen which is an improvement on last season. All we need now is HD!

Sky aggreed 3 year deal to show la liga today. Absolutely fantastic news. Well done sky. la liga is worth the Subs fee alone.

Shame theres no HD again, but hopefully that will eventually come.

I'm assuming the Real Madrid won't kick off before the end of the Man U v Arsenal game, spanish game also clashes with the milan derby on ESPN which is a shame. Really pleased Sky have got this again was worried for a bit nobody would pickup la liga this season.

Will be interesting to see if the PQ has improved compared to last season when some of the matches were almost unwatchable. They are flagged up on the EPG as being in widescreen so hopefully this will mean a better feed?

Both matches last night were using the new HD feed that is available from Spain this season but was downscaled by Sky for broadcast due to the usual lack of HD studio issues. When are they going to learn that people are not really that bothered by the presentation is is SD if the match is in HD like ESPN are currently doing.

Just one other quick note to mention as of next Fri 4th Sep Sky sports coverage of boxing is going to all be in HD from the UK previously it was just box office events only in HD but now the Fri weekly matches will be in HD which now just leaves speedway and greyhounds as regular Uk based sport not in HD on Sky

Are you saying you can't see awful Mpeg2 artefacts on SD channels for one who complains about picture quality so much.

I actually caught the feeds when they where FTA last week. H264 at 30-40mbit. They were not up to the same standards as we see in the Championship or premiership here. Wasn't bad though.

Sky did a pretty fine job on the up scaling too on the HD channels, The SD while close channel was clearly ridden with mpeg2 artefacts washing away the detail though.

It was not HD but it was certainly an HD feed downscaled as it was an excellent picture for SD yet again.

Sky have done a really good job with la liga this year. They are using a better studio and broadcasting in 16:9 which certainly helps. Even the picture on bandwith starved Sky Sports extra looked good last night.
