'The Job' TV series

Has anybody watched 'The Job' TV series with Denis Leary? I'm just wondering whether to go to the bother of tracking down the DVD to buy, is it similar to Rescue Me?

Re: 'The Job'

The full series boxset is worth getting on R1 DVD, not exactly a highlight in the DVD market in terms of picture quality as it shows the issues with the original US TV production. Still it's funny as hell and if you like Rescue Me this is a must watch as you see the genesis of Tommy.

When you say 'The full series boxset is worth getting' do you mean that there are different releases? I have noticed that some DVD websites have a picture with brown lettering and some have blue lettering but I can't work out the differences yet..

No just indicating the DVD release was the full series not two releases for seasons 1 and 2. I never even knew there were two versions although it does look like only the cover art varies.

MT have it for £21.99, pretty sure I bought my copy from them and it's the brown version and there are a few on Amazon Marketplace.

TVshowsondvd mention updated art so perhaps the blue was an earlier version yet was manufactured and entered the market or it's used on sites by mistake?

Thanks for clarifying, I just wanted to ensure I was looking for the correct DVD & with 2 different artworks available I wondered if there was different content on each.

Personally I think £21.99 is a bit steep especially for a series that is 6/7 years old, any chance you could tell me how many episodes are included on the DVD as I'm at work & the internet from work is very restricted so I'm limited to very few websites that I can access..

Re: 'The Job'

All 19 that were produced.
The price may reflect the huge demand at the time also feed by the 1000 early produced sets intended for cast and crew.
Either way you may simply have to rely on ebay or a one off price cut at some point or Amazon marketplace that has some good deals every now and again.

Thumbs up Re: 'The Job'

Hi,

The Job: Complete Series (1 and 2) on 4 discs, from DVD Pacific for about £17, excluding P&P. See here for details!

Delivery to UK usually takes about 2 weeks, give or take, but they are a good company, and one I use all the time for older or rarer titles.

Re: 'The Job'

I bought it about a year ago after someone recommended on here (thought it was Razor but maybe not then). It's been discussed a few times over the last 12 months.

It's fantastic, probably the best set of DVDs I've ever bought. I actually prefer it to Rescue Me at the moment - which really says something.

Edit:

It was recommended by 'phillfyspoon' on post #38 of this thread - discussions started there.

Rescue Me - Series 3.

Also talked about here too:

hi guys recommend me some tv shows

I got my R1 boxset from Amazon, think it cost about £20

Thanks for the info, I had seen it for sale at dvdpacific but was unsure of buying from them but if Pooch is saying that they're ok I'll consider buying from them

I still think it's an expensive boxset, but with all the positive remarks regarding 'The Job' I'm going to have to dig into my scrooge pockets..

You won't be disappointed

The first episode isn't up to much as to be expected, but after that it just gets better & better. The Liz Hurley episode if fantastic.

Loads of subtle gags going on - look out for the guy that never speaks but yet gets accused of being the office gossip.

Probably closer to 22mins. Standard half hour US sitcom running time (not including adverts).

In comparison to Rescue Me, The Job probably leans more towards the comedy side in the comedy/drama balance than Rescue Me, so the shorter running time works in its favour.

ah I thought it was going to be a drama first and foremost with plenty of comedy moments just like Rescue Me. It's good to know I'm actually expecting a comedy series ahead of time. It's exactly what the doctor ordered .

Re: 'The Job'

In the last few days I've managed to watch the first 2 DVDs or 11 episodes and I have to say that it is very funny. To be honest I wouldn't say it's better than Rescue Me even though there's a huge amount of similarities between the two shows, including and especially the sheer number of actors that appear in both shows. In my honest opinion it is as if "the job" was the pilot for Rescue Me, working out the bugs, smoothing out all the crinkles in preparation for Rescue Me.

The Job as good as it is, is more low-budget, lighter in tone in comparison to Rescue Me. Rescue me also appears more refined with a better central cast in my opinion, more politically incorrect, slicker, sexier and basically more fine tuned. From what I've seen so far for "the job" is well worth watching whether you're a fan of Rescue Me or not, but if you are a fan of Rescue Me I think it is *essential* viewing.

I loved the "foot doctor" ep , laughed my arse off

Re: 'The Job'

I agree with everyone else about this show. You can see the seeds of Rescue Me in there aswell as some familar faces.
What I would say is that when I had watched the season I did get a really good re-sale value for the boxset so I wasn't that much out of pocket.
