Does anyone know if its still in pre-production?
There was talk about david fincher being mooted as director and morgan freeman confirmed to star but it seems to have come to a halt - anyone know if its still on the cards?

What are the chances of a film doing justice to the book? I'm guessing about 1 in 5000.

daneel - In my opinion, RWR is amongst the greatest science fiction books ever written and is something I would REALLY love to see on the big screen, sure its not going to have the impact of the book (dune anyone?) - how can it? but we can only hope, having david fincher at the helm is a definite bonus.

I got a signed copy! Picked up from Portsmouth many moons ago as a student there, the sequal was a great dissapointment.

I may be a barbarian among cultured men but I never thought the book was that groundbreaking. Good for sure, but not revolutionary. Far too predicatble - for instance [spiler removed by moderator]

Still it will be nice to see it as a film. I haven't read any of the sequels yet although I dare say I will one day soon.

After readind RWR, I immedately ordered the sequal and after reading it, realised I had wasted £13 on a second rate doorstop - definitely one of a.c clarkes off days!
I've been told that a second sequel was released some years ago - is it any good?

Why? Clarke didn't write much (if any) of the sequels - Gentry Lee seems to be the main writer - the style just doesn't come across as Clarke to me. I actually enjoyed all 3 sequels, but they're note up to the standard of the first.

Is the film of RWR still going to be all CGI?

On closer inspection, I realise that the second book IS a collaboration - I've only just realised this!
At least this explains the different writing style because having read The Sentinel, Childhoods End and other classic clarke, the first sequel just does'nt 'feel' like the great mans work.
As for cgi, I can't see that, given that morgan freeman was confirmed to star (unless its to do voiceover).

My apologies if I offended anyone by posting this spoiler. I assumed most people reading the thread would have read the book but, of course, I shouldn't have made that assumption.

I think it'd make a great movie, if it was done with tact and style. As for the sequels, the're not bad, as science fiction books go. Certainly not up to the standard of Clarkes best work though. I think Gentry Lee has a rambling effect in his books. If you look at Clarkes work all of his books are quite consice. All of the collaberations with Lee spill on for about 200 pages too long.
