New DVD set Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete Collection (8 Discs)

In addition to the older Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete Series Box Set (8 Discs), Play seems to a list Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete Collection (8 Discs) which has a release date of 1.9.2008. I can't find much info on this release. The new set seems to be "Digitally Restored".

Anyone know anything more?

P.S. I hope this is the right forum to post this thread, I'm a bit confused with the current forum structure.

Re: New DVD set Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete Collection (8 Discs)

this is just an excuse to reissue the set under the "ITV DVD" label rather than the "Granada" label of the original release
- which I have, and also has the words "The Complete Series Digitally restored" on the front

Save your money and get the original release, currently £13.99 at HMV.com (www.find-dvd.co.uk/3711509193.htm), rather than this new rebadged one that is on pre-order for £35.89 or more (www.find-dvd.co.uk/3711529383.htm)

Thanks, krish. I don't mean to question your knowledge on this but how do you know the newer set isn't significantly better wrt for example picture quality?

I'm only really going by the sleeve info ... same "digitally restored" text with the Granada label rebranded as ITV, and the fact that classic TV series on DVD are rarely given one proper digital restoration, let alone two ... unless taken up by specialist labels like Network, or they have their own loving/dedicated restoration team (like classic series Doctor Who)

It does to all intents and purposes appear to be the same release in a new box, and unless there is reliable info to the contrary (nothing so far from websearching), I'd just wait and see, or snap up the already released boxset at its current bargain price before its deleted/out of print

It seems the programme was originally made on film and not on video, so who knows if we might one day get even a BD release. No such hint found by Google, though.

Has anyone bought this by now?

P.S. I could swear I posted this in a DVD/disc forum originally and now it's in the TV section. I blame the multi-phased forum changes...

Thanks. Anyone with hands on experience now? Is the picture quality the same as before? Any subtitles?

Re: New DVD set Jeeves And Wooster: The Complete Collection (8 Discs)

I've noticed that Brideshead Revisited was also reissued on 1st Sept ... in a new "ITV DVD" branded box (www.find-dvd.co.uk/3711529433.htm), but seemingly same content and number of discs. Perhaps there are other classic Granada/Carlton TV series of yesteryear that also had this re-issue/re-badging on 1st Sept too?

Leads me to believe more than earlier that its identical content/mastering just with new box and disc art.

EDIT ... Inspector Morse (Complete Collection) was released on the ITV DVD label on 1st Sept too. Appears to be all the old multiple releases, consolidated and rebranded (www.find-dvd.co.uk/3711529343.htm)

So 1st Sept '08 was ITV DVD reissue day
