Question Firefly - Your opinions?

Hi,

Okay: "Firefly" is actually quite good... at least from what I've seen so far. As "Pilot Movies" go, this one is definitely one of the best I've seen in quite a while.

Anyone spot the "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" in-joke, in Part 2?!

Good points:
- intriguing characters
- intelligently written
- fairly fast-moving

Bad Points:
- the damn animated DOG that appeared less than five minutes intot the show, claiming "Part 2 of Firefly is on at 9pm"! I KNOW THAT FOR ****'S SAKE! Why, Sci-Fi?! Why?!
- the bad choice of where to position advert breaks! Some of the places chosen, were half-way through a scene.
- the staggeringly inane decision to squash the credits to 1/8th their original size, just to promote Part 2 (as if we didn't know already), and "Tremors"! (Which isn't a premiere movie, despite what Sci-Fi Teletext states!)
- the decision to repeat "Serenity: Part 2" next Monday at 8pm, followed by Episode 3 "The Train Job". What's that all about, especially when "Firefly: Serenity Parts 1 and 2" are already being repeated at least twice more each, between tonight and next week.

A good show, partly ruined by the treatment it has been given tonight.

Oh, and we soooo need to see this transmitted in Widescreen. I lost count of the times that characters were talking to one another, off screen, or were split in half. The DVD release will be a good bet, if the show maintains this level of quality.

Overall, a great start to an intriguing new show! 8.5 out of 10!

Only watched the first episode. Have to say i really enjoyed it - interesting characters and some very nice SFX. (really liked the how the space scenes had no silly sound effects)
. Its one i will be watching. Is it still going in the States ??
Any news on a dvd release ??

Cool

Can’t say I was awfully struck on it, I couldn’t get round the idea of cowboys in space.
Where did the get those horses from when they went to that planet or what did they do with them afterward? This was never explained.
I was highly infuriated at the spoiling of the program. Only a few minutes into the pilot and they scroll on the bottom of the screen part 2 was on at 9. The adverts seemed very frequent although they had the usual 4 to the hour. I also noticed they have adopted the All New under the hated logo.
I also thought it was very noticeable it had been cropped down from a 16:9 presentation.

Garrett,

No offence, my friend, but "Firefly" runs for 15 episodes in total!

Eleven of them were aired, (with "Serenity" being transmitted as a single 2-hour special, and the final three were never transmitted at all!)

Sadly, there is unlikely to be any further episodes, so enjoy these while you can!

Addendum: Bad news folks - "Firefly" is being censored by the Sci-Fi channel!!! The edited version goes out between 8pm and 10pm each week. The late-night repeats, contain extra or longer scenes. You will be able to tell where the edits are, because Sci-Fi seem to be slowing down a scene for a few frames, removing the offending frames, but without having to actually edit the soundtrack. Hence, in last night's episode when the female "companion" / prostitute was taking a bath, the scene was done in slow-motion. I thought this was an effect, but in fact the late night repeat contained brief nudity, and wasn't in slow-motion either. I therefore recommend watching or taping the late-night versions, if at all possible, or else wait for the DVD release, which will be in widescreen as well. Failing that, just bombard Channel Five to buy the terrestrial rights to the show, then it'll be uncut, uncensored, in widescreen and DOG free as well! Bye!

Non taken.

I was going of what someone one was saying on IMBD.
I just found this http://members.fortunecity.com/firef...sodeguide.html but it does not list the last 3.

Hi Again,

I tend to use:

http://www.tvtome.com/Firefly/guide.html

for episode info. This one does list the unaired (in the US) episodes, but here in the UK we'll get all 15 made!

Haven't seen it yet, but I just had to mention how much it annoys me when american studios like the wb pull the plug on a series half way through.

They have done it with a lot of shows that were pretty good. It seems that if it isn't an instant success then it gets binned!!!

This is nuts, After all look at all the shows over here that did badly first time round (like the office!!!) and then became either big successes eventually or cult hits.

Good show. I've seen the 11 they aired. I really wish they didn't kill it.

It is on at the same time as Enterprise on Monday. Next week part 2 will be repeated before a new episode at 9pm. It was also repeated on the same day round midnight.
