Exclamation Five Life to be rebranded "Fiver"

Hi,

To coincide with the start of Season 2 of the dark, sexy and controversial US drama series "Dirt" (starring Courtney Cox as the head of a sleazy tabloid gossip magazine, and someone for whom "no" is a word that doesn't exist), Five Life are going to be rebranding themselves....

... from Five Life to Fiver!

The rebranding will take place towards the end of this month , and the idea was to feature a host of new shows, including the chance to watch Daniel Baldwin trying to battle his demons in Celebrity Rehab. From the end of April, the rebranded channel will have a new on- and off-air look, including a revised ident to sit alongside newly commissioned and acquired shows. Fiver also aims to “hold on to the best bits of Life, but be younger, faster and louder”.

Season 2 of "Dirt" should start soon, although no official start date has been announced, with Season 1 coming to UK DVD (Certificate 18) from Monday 5th May 2008!

Re: Five Life to be rebranded "Fiver"

Never watched a programme on this or FiveUS. I am slowly learning to live with some logos (Five, SkyOneHD, BBC HD etc), although I'd much rather not have to, but nothing will tempt me to watch a channel that assaults the viewer's eye with a huge or multi-coloured logo.

Hi,

Irrespective of what you feel about the channel's name/rebranding, Season 2 of "DIRT" starts tonight at 9pm!

If you've not seen the series, then it's a superb, gritty, controversial adult drama starring Courtney Cox-Arquette as the manager of a US celebrity magazine, who will stop at nothing to get the "dirt" on any celebrity, for the magazine! It's superb, and actor Ian Hart as Don (the schizophrenic photographer) is absolutely blinding in his role!

Just sounds cheap. Someone probably got paid a £100k for a rebrand to "Fiver". Honestly, who the hell names a tv channel fiver ?

Sinzterguy,

The same could be said of satellite channel "Dave". What the hell were they thinking? They could have named it any other bloke's name, and it still would've been crap! Why didn't they call it "Caruthers"?! After all, everyone knows someone called "Caruthers", don't they folks?!

Re: Five Life to be rebranded "Fiver"

Actually, Dave was named after a lunchtime drinking session apparantly. Can't say if Fiver was but I reckon so...

Good to see 'Dirt' back, my girlfriend loves it ;-)

Exclamation Re: Five Life to be rebranded "Fiver"

Battle,

I too was shocked at the new-style credits. The animation looks quite cool, and does seem to be relevant, but the new theme music is absolutely hideous!

Give me the original song, anyday:

Dig in
Dig deep
Deserve what you reap
Don't you know the truth will set you free

The song is by Debby Holiday and is called "Dig Deep", but the new title is a rock version of the popular nursery rhyme "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".

Lastly, I've read that because of the Writer's Guild Strike, only 7 episodes were completed, out of the intended 13. Sadly, it was decided, that no more episodes would be made for the time being, and as such Season 2 lasts half of the length of Season 1.

It should also be noted, that Season 2 takes on a different style to the first one, by being a little less grim and dark, making Lucy less of a bitch, and making each episode pretty much self-contained. It will also be more character-based. Thus, there's no real overall story arc, like with Season 1. In the US, the show only received around 1 million viewers over the entire season, which for a cable show, isn't bad, but not great. In the UK, though, the ratings have given Fiver and Five US (who originally showed Season 1) some of their best ratings ever - around 675,000 viewers for each episode.

No news on a Season 3 alas. The Season 1 DVD boxed set, comes out in the UK in a week or two, certificate 18, on 3 discs, with some reasonable extras.
