List any big TV shows that everyone else seems to have seen but not you. Mine include:

The Sopranos - I plan to get the boxset of this.
24 - ditto above.
ER - What season are they up to now? Don't think I'll ever have time to start with this one!
X-Files - If I ever have time I might get this on DVD.
BSG - Never seen a single bit of a single episode but don't think it is my sort of show; doubt I'll ever find out though.

Is it my imagination or are there far more decent shows around nowadays? I have about a dozen current shows that I really like which means I never seem to have time to catch up on the old show boxsets.

You're right, but (with US shows) its a double-edged sword in that more creative/original serialised shows, where you can't miss a single episode can easily die a death with the domestic reality-TV-loving viewers, or are messed about with and killed by the network themselves (Firefly, Day Break, Kidnapped, Traveller, Journeyman, Jericho, etc etc)

If we go back 20+ years ... that was the heyday of the far fetched primetime US soaps Dallas and Dynasty, and not the more realistically scripted dramas of today; and you didn't have cable networks like HBO and Showtime producing edgier adult shows like Six Feet Under, Sopranos, Dexter, Sleeper Cell etc ...

Pretty much every 1 hour long American drama TV show that everyone touches themselves over (and others of course); things along the lines of:

24, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, Brass Eye, Californication, Dexter, Dirty Sexy Money, Dr. Who, Firefly, Heroes, House, Lost, Nip/Tuck, Prison Break, The Sopranos, The West Wing, The Wire, Torchwood, Reaper, etc etc etc...

It wasn't really that popular at the time. Most didn't get it and they wondered if he was the star's Danger Man character John Drake. It didn't matter if he was Drake or not. It was one great show in it's time and still stands up very well today. Depending on your age you may or may not get it. If you do give it a go I hope you love it as much as I do.

Never seen The Sopranos properly. I have seen the odd clips now and then but never seen a whole episode. I don't really have the desire to watch it.

Others I haven't seen at all - Six feet under, The Wire, Sleeper Cell and any others that are on Sky only (only have Freeview).

I'm the same. I've only seen clips but they repulse me. It's very unfair to reject something on that level but I have no desire to see it.

I give most things a go, some I love, some I give up on and some make it about half way through a series with!

Gave up on Dirty Sexy Money, Family Guy, Gray's Anatomy, House...

Until last week, The West Wing.

Everybody raves about it but I didn't see the appeal of watching a bunch of suits. I finally caved and watched the first couple of episodes last week and it was very enjoyable. Its not in the same league as The Sopranos (which it is often compared too) but very good nevertheless.

Of those I've still to see. Never watched DS9 despite having seen every other Star Trek multiple times.

Also never seen a full episode of any CSI.


I can't believe the number of people in this thread who have never seen The Sopranos, The Wire or BSG. These are the best 3 TV dramas ever. Watch them immediately



Oh, and Coronation Street. Never watched it

24 - watched 1st series but lost interest after that
Prison Break - watched 1st x 5 or 6 episodes of Series 1 but lost interest
Heroes - watched 1st x 2 episodes and got irritated by some of the characters

I found that I didn't really have time to watch all these well reviewed shows, so I just had to be selective.

In the end I stuck with the likes of Sopranos, Lost, Six Feet Under, Mad Men, Arrested Development.

Did you get as far as the riot in Prison Break? That was about half a dozen episodes in and I thought it was pretty average before that too. Got much better afterwards.

Also, to repeat what has been said on here a million times. If you like The Sopranos you'll love The Wire.

I have only seen the first prison Break Episode and that was enough for me not to bother with the rest.

The one series I took a gamble on was BSG and glad I did. I still need to see season 3 though (not cheap enough yet).
