| Anyone noticed the strange A/R "The Hits" is broadcasting in lately?
Noticed this the other week, and only remembered after reading a thread about TV progs and aspect ratio's just now....
The Hits gets taken over by "4 Music" every sunday, and since then, it's had a strange a/r! Normally all week it's 4:3, but when it's 4 Music, it seems to be 14:9! Well thats what my Sony IDTV says it is as it autoswitches and flashes up the a/r on the screen.
Thing is, it seems to miss parts of the wording off the screen! No great loss, as it's only really the DOGS that you lose on, but still seems odd...
Whats even more strange is my downstairs tv - another 16:9 CRT. I have it set on wide all the time and my freeview pvr shows either 4:3 or 16:9 depending on channel. With the 4 Music programme on the Hits - it shows it as bigger than 4:3, which you'd expect for it being 14:9 - but it lines up the bottom and the left side, and I'm left with a thin bar on top, and a thinnish bar down the right side!
Bizarre!
Why don't all these TV broadcasters simply braodcast in 16:9 - which seems to be the accepted standard these days. My mum has both a 4:3 and 16:9 TV, both with Freeview boxes. Ones set to 16:9 and the other to letterbox it for a 4:3. So whilst 4:3 channels, like UKTV history look good on her 4:3 TV, it looks poo on the 16:9 - and vice versa....
SOmeone put me in charge of broadcasting please!!!!! These idiots don't seem to know what the hell they are actually doing!
