Titanic sets sail at 18:30

Really anticipating good things from this one. I'm sure the PQ and sound could be fantastic on a film such as this one ..... so, will it be an Oscar winning blockbuster or will it sink without trace?

Only around twenty minutes to go, set your planner and I'm surprised it hasn't appeared on Anytime yet ....

Supposedly the new master looks really good (been on TNT-HD in the States but ruined by popups and advert breaks). I'm wary of the bitrate but guess we'll find out shortly...

Mine isn't jerky, although the PQ seems to be a touch inconsistent. Hopefully it will settle down for the rest of the film ....

Re: Titanic sets sail at 18:30

Mines also jerky, i paused it for 30sec then resumed and seems to have cured it, maybe it acted like a buffer

Ok now 20.00 and it has no sound? flicked over and now its back?

Re: Titanic sets sail at 18:30

Hmmm, not that impressed at all with the PQ. Apart from the judder and jerkiness it seems a bit soft and you can definitely see some pixelation during the underwater shots. Not good at all IMO.

Had a look at the SD offering and that seemed pretty poor too at the side of the Judy Dench film which was on Prem +1. Compared the HD version with Casino Royale which I'd recorded earlier and CR was way superior.

Watched the whole film - no judder or pixilation as far as I could see. Seemed great.

It did skip every so often for the first hour or so (which was disappointing) but the PQ was pretty good I reckon.

Only used 13% for 214 mins though so it can't have been a very high bitrate.

If anybody still has the HD preview show then recheck the Titanic part to see if the quality is the same as I believe the bitrate for "HD Preview Show" is very high!!

Re: Titanic sets sail at 18:30

I had "judder" as well. Was this poor conversion or, as someone posted earlier, does pausing and then restarting help? Is there a buffer on these boxes and does it make any difference?

This is getting on my nerves a bit. It happened when I watched Rush Hour, Zulu and now this. I also tried to watch "Live at the Apollo" last night and it looked almost like strobing as the movement of Lee mack seemed completely unsmooth.

Re: Titanic sets sail at 18:30

Same here. Major juddering even after resetting Sky Box and although it settled down a bit into the film, the lip synch to the AV decoder was out. Picture playback improved into the latter half of the movie but had to leave sound on the TV Speakers.

You got to do better than that, Sky!

This is so strange - I had no judder or sound issues at all - For those that do not believe me I still have it recorded in my planner.

There is more to a picture than the bitrate - only take that with a pinch of salt - it is what we see that counts.

Watched a few minutes of it last night while it was being broadcast and I saw quite a bit of stuttering then, just watched it this afternoon (as I recorded it last night) and there was no stuttering whatsoever. Very strange

I thought the PQ was really good in places, but uneven as some parts were very soft. I also had a couple of quite long sound drop-outs............Oh well maybe next time it sails...

It sails again this afternoon at 5.30 on screen 2 HD. Hoepfully it should have a better PQ being on the higher bitrate 2HD.

Re: Titanic sets sail at 18:30

Well this afternoons transmission quality was night and day

better than the first one .

As already noted the first one used 13% on a standard box and

i must admit i didn't think it looked that much better than my

XE1's upscaled output .

20% was used this afternoon and so obviously a much higher

bitrate

Right from the kick off the picture was much sharper and had

much more depth to it.............

.......I think it's time to upgrade the hardrive

Anybody know when this is on again? Pref on HD 1 or 2.
We were convinced it was on at 9pm so sat down to watch it only to find we had missed it.

TIA
