Curse of the Golden Flower.....outstanding

Never even heard of this until I watched it last night.Imo the best of Hero ,Crouching Tiger ,Flying Daggers etc.Usual gorgeous sets, costumes, etc but this has something over the others .....an actual gripping plot. It's Greek tragedy in 10th century China. It's just wonderful HD .

That's a very good description. It's also quite Shakespearian in terms of the fates of the cast (if you know what I mean).

Trouble is despite all this and the lavish sets, I personally found it a little dull.

Mind you I felt the same way about Flying Daggers, looked great (in the cinema at least I understand the Blu-Ray is poor) but it didn't engage me.

Each to their own though and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Probably not because it's mostly all indoors or outside at night. But it's up with most modern films.
I've looked at Zulu a few times and I think one of the reasons it looks so good is the very high contrast between the striking red uniform, snow white hat, naturally sharp mountains in the background with a beautiful blue sky above and 90% filmed in very bright days.It had everything going for it and the fine restoration put in by the film co. and SKY crowned it all and gave us a reference film to show off and impress doubters.
