Let's just hope that Sky don't pull a BBC HD and claim that Dropping Bitrates will Improve Picture Quality.

Re: Matrix on Sky

I've been looking forward to this one for weeks. I have this on ordinary DVD and it looks (and sounds) fantastic. Let's hope that the HD broadcast lives up to expectations

Re: Matrix on Sky

I thought it looked good. Not significantly better than the SD DVD but there was a definite improvement in PQ.

Agree with that. It's a very 'green' looking film at the best of times and while sometimes it looked quite ordinary, other times there was superb detail in the background. Nice to note no sound drop outs on 5.1 too.

The sound is very good.

The picture is nothing special, atleast it isn't bad, but not as good as I was expecting, fair few tears and white dots.

You have to give credit to the special effects, they still hold up today, well most of them do.

Re: Matrix on Sky

As above - it took 14% on mine - I thought it looked pretty good - if not great

Kudos to Sky for showing older films in HD - thought Zulu was flawless

Cheers

The films is deliberately filmed that way to make it harder to tell when the actors are replaced with CGI in the next 2 films, or that is what was claimed.

I had 1 sound drop near the beginning. Big improvement on recent films.

Really? I may be wrong and I am really not looking to start an argument but I thought the green tint was the idea that whilst in the matrix there was a green hue whilst when 'unplugged' the green lessened to some extent could be wrong though!

the green tint is to represent being inside the matrix, with the green colour being inspired from the old green computer monitors like the matrix code. the remastered version of the film on dvd was colour corrected to make the green tint the same as used in the sequels, as the original green tint was a bit more brownish

I heard that because the CGI at the time, and still now doesn't have the processing power to produce the blood vessels under the skin, all skin looks opaque and unreal. To combat this all actors wear heavy make-up, and the lighting was adjusted to give everyone a unrealistic colour.
The green was maybe chosen to represent the Matrix, which seems a reasonable theory, but it also serves a more practical purpose.
