The Ring caused me involuntary bowel evacuation

It's the only film I've ever seen that truly disturbed me - to the point where I had to watch another film straight away to get it out of my head.

Spoiler

The girl coming towards - and then out of - the TV screen

Hi,

Yeah, i would class that a spoiler for someone who has not seen it yet!.

That aside, I found that when i saw the original version i thought to myself 'what the $@#$!'. Real creepy. I think it took place in a darker room, so more frightening. One of the best horror moments for a few years now.

cheers

A good tip is to watch it with your wife/girlfriend, then call your home number from your mobile phone just as it finishes

I was pretty scared in the film itself - definitely some lasting images there.

What really scared me though was the brilliant easter egg where you watch the actual video in full - genius.

On the main menu, press down beyond the options (twice I think) and the cursor disappears.

Press enter and you get the full version of the 'video'. And scared.

BTW - best to watch immediately after the film

I agree - it scared the absolute **** out of me. I wouldn't have believed a film could affect me in that way as I've seen all the notorious horror/scary flicks over the years and have never been scared by any of them. I can't believe it was only rated 15 over here . There should have been some kind of warning beforehand telling you to get out now . I saw it in the cinema last week and it took me a few days to get it out of my mind. I won't have the DVD anywhere near me.

Great film. The remake was much better than the original IMO. The story was more tightly constructed, better told, and the visuals were more frightening. Although the original did more to emphasise the pure evil of the little girl.

I thought it was brilliant. Watched it twice on DVD now and the 2nd time was possibly scarier than the first. I also picked up on a lot of subtle images that I would have missed first-time round (cos I was so scared probably )

Very good horror film though and hopefully the sequel/prequel will get remade as well. Would be nice to understand the little girl and why she was so evil.

Not scary for me, but mildly creepy. I was disappointed that I didn't jump when I have jumped at many other movies. Miles better than the Jap original which bored me rigid (although I was asleep at the 'crucial point' so previous comments make me feel like I should check that sequence out for curiosity's sake).

Thought the footage on the tape itself had a very David Lynch feel about it (which is maybe why that didn't creep me out either).

The Easter Egg on the DVD is great, nice touch. Also like the interesting way they did the deleted scenes (as a short movie with flashbacks to the film proper).

Great movie, just not scary.

As an aside, it's interesting to note parallels with other movies such as Silence of the Lambs (I won't say which bit, but you know if you've seen both movies) and The Changeling.

As Groundy has just said to me in a PM, different things for different people.

The fact that it has many, many parallels with The Changeling didn't help either (I'm guessing The Changeling was made first too as it's well old, but I need to check the date on Ringu).

I do think however that the director could've done a better job soundwise, i.e. using mega-loud noises at appropriate moments. He didn't really do this. If he had done, I would've jumped

And yes, if you enjoyed The Ring, do check out The Changeling as I'm sure it will scare you ****less as well

Yes Jimmy. I bought the R1 a while ago. Not seen it on any other region but search for the R1 at www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk and you'll find a few suppliers.

It appears to be out on Region 2 as well now.
I can get it from play for 12 pounds.

IMO he didn't do this because he didn't want the film to be another cliched, stereotyped horror.

The film worked so well for me because it was different (not the same as being original - it had a very 'Final Destination' feel to it IMO) to a typical horror film.

No gore. No violence. Very little bad langauge.

The sound mixes were very good IMO and the music was totally spot-on.

This did nothing for me either. I just find it wierd that people found this scary most the time during the film I sat there looking at my DVD player to see how long was left, unfortunately it didn't speed the film up for me

If you want some really scary jumpy moments in a film get The Eye. CD-Wow should still be doing it for around £7 and I highly recommend it for heart failure. The frights do taper off in the latter half of the film but the first hour is great, with the ending making up for last half hour of it.

But anyway The Eye is worth getting for £7 just for the heart attack moments.

Just finished watching it tonight, I'm with the rodent deity on this one, good film but not scary. From people's comments I was expecting to be jumping out of my seat but it's not that kind of film I guess, it's more psychological in it's approach. Naomi Watts again was fantastic, why this actress isn't hired more often is a travesty, not many Hollywood leading women can match ability with their looks but N Watts can.
