Is it just me or is Red Dwarf not v funny?

Ive recently been watching the reruns of S1 on tv... waiting for the Dvds to go cheaper!; it just seems to me that neither Chris Barrie or Craig Charles are remotely funny. I must admit that I still think Holly and The Cat are hilarious, but with all those "funny" lines of the main characters, I didnt laugh once. Is it just me? I blame Robot Wars.

I don't like S1 or S2 as well. In the first two seasons, do Rimmer and Lister just argue all the time?

Got alot better with S3, with the new Kryten (bloke from scrapheap challenge)

yeh the first kryten does ming a bit... that head eww. Chris Barrie comes across as very 6th form drama club to me, and Lister's character seems to less endearing than I remember. They are pretty much just arguing at the mo (s1) ... with not much aplomb.

I like them. I suppose S1 is just trying to portray their dislike for each other so that the other series could build on that. Cat is the best though in 1 and 2. The Kryten at the end of S2 was a bit poor. Glad Robert Llewellyn did Kyrten from S3 onwards as he stole the shows for me from there on out.

Cool

I liked most of the series but the one I disliked the most is the one where Rimmer left and was replaced by Kochanski I think it was the first to use film as well. The next series was ok with her in but I just did not find that one funny at all.
I like Kryten, Holly(Norman Lovett the best) and Cat.

Series 7 Garrett. Diabolicle IMO. But didn't they also loose one of the writers/production team? Can't remember if it was Bye, Grant or Naylor. Whoever it was the others should have been shot for what they did.

Dwayne Dibbley? I'm Dwayne Dibbley. He was great Nathan.

Series 1 and 2 were hilarious at the time.

I remember in particular laughing for years at that line from Rimmer at the end of Series 2 "Hooooooooge heads"

But I've seen them so many, many times, that I just smile when watching them now and get all nostalgic.

Series 1 & 2 have dated quite badly when you look at the cheapo props, background scenery etc, which was one reason why they 'digitally' updated them. Sadly, in the process, the magic was lost and those who had grown up with Dwarf didn't feel the nostalgia anymore.

Altogether now:

It's cold outside, there's no kind of atmosphere...

I though the first five series were great and still have them on VHS taped off BBC2.
From series six onward they seemed to be overproduced and not quite the same - think this coincided with an entry into the Yank market. Completely lost interest from then on....

UNRUMBLE is still one of my favourite comedy sketches - in fact the whole of the Backward episode is a masterpiece!

He had a few cameo's. True, although I can't back this up with video evidence.

Yes he was good.
Who uses, or used Rimmer in that get up from the episode where they had to go into quarantine as an avatar? That was a cracking episode.

I have to say that I really do enjoy nearly all of RD, although I think series' 7 + 8 were decidedly weak in comparison (they lost Rob Grant for those ones, for whoever was wondering).

My favourite episode has to be the 4 Gunmen of the Apocalypse, with the Riviera Keeeeeeeeeeeed!!

That episode was so funny

Personally I always thought the Queeg episode from series 2 was one of the funniest ever

Queeg: Thats an illegal move. Queen's don't move that way
Holly: Sorry. I was thinking of Snakes And Ladders

i wasn't going to bother with the DVDs as I had seen them so many times before I thought I wouldn't find them funny

wrong, still superb

IMO series 2 and 3 were the best of the bunch, things went downhill 6 and 7

And 8 was terrible (IMO)

Someone should have been kicked for that ending. Terrible way to end one of the greatest comedies ever

What was the very last episode ending? Was it Rimmer blowing up the time machine?

I liked White Hole.

So, what is it?

A White hole.

A White hole?

Exactly. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

So, what is it?

Classic
