Lazy Christmas Scheduling

Was it just me or were ALL the channels TV schedules a load of crap this year?? The wife and I did nothing but surf all the digital channels to find anything worth watching. To me it was all lazy lazy lazy with nothing but 'the top 50 this' or celebrity top 100 that', and most of those were repeated 2 or 3 times over the week. AND, I don't pay my TV license to watch BBC s christmas special event........TO THE BLOODY MANOR BORN 20 YRS ON !!!!! I am sorry but this was the worst Christmas viewing I have ever had the displeasure to complain about. Thank god for DVD s !!!!!

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

Ended up on Christmas day watching the 3-part "Only Fools and Horses" Christmas special from 10 years ago on UK Gold. I'm still of the opinion that they should have stopped making them after the Trotters became millionaires!

British TV is a joke these days IMO

I went on a BBC1 marathon xmas day evening-night. 2 Eastenders specials separated by the Doctor, Strictly Come Dancing was awesome and the Manor Barn or whatever it was called was surprisingly good

Think the world and his wife would agree with you there, it was the perfect end.

As to British TV is a joke these days it does throw one or two gems out but not as consistant as it use to be, having good US programs on at a decent time seems to be a no go as well just wall to wall soaps and reality programs.

I recorded Shrek 2 and watched Polar Express which I did not care for but enjoyed Shrek. Also TV Burp

Well, TG and Mrs TG would certainly agree with that, although it would have meant missing that marvellous scene with Rodney and Cassandra as Gladiator and Policewoman.

But to get back on topic, yes, it was pretty dire over Christmas.

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

perhaps the TV industry saw the huge levels of digital bits and bobs (ie consoles, PC's and the like) being sold this year that they figured there wouldnt be many people watching telly anyhow......just a thought.

agree on F&H's ending on the triple bill, the batman & robin scene is just awesome..heh

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

The Comedy Christmas on BBC2 on Xmas eve was YET ANOTHER EXCUSE to put together a load of old xmas tv clips that we've seen a million times before.
Not only that, they repeated it the following night on XMAS DAY

And later on there was the 'Comedy Connections on Red Dwarf',. Just how many different ways can they dress up these old clips programmes

And on the other side was a 'best of French and Saunders' compilation

And now panel progs like QI, Buzzcocks are at it with their 'compilation finales'

LAZY, LAZY, LAZY and the Beeb seem to be the LAZIEST of them all

Maybe they've at last realised that, although Christmas viewing figures look attractive, with large family gatherings and lots of booze, nobody is actually watching the screen!

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

Xmas TV was shocking this year.

Perhaps its just nostalgia, but it does seem to be getting worse every year, with this easily the worst I can remember.

What I really want to see stop in 2008 is the never ending list of 'Top 100 worst ...' and 'Top 50 Most Embarrassing ....' type shows, who have to wheel on non-entities who you don;t know until they put their name across the bottom with 'comedian' underneath. And then you still don't know them

The most irritating show of the Xmas period for me was the look back at Dragons Den. Now I used to never miss this show and really looked forward to it. But it was ruined by a couple of things:

1) Main one. Why is Gods name did we have to have that fat, unfunny git Chris Moyles, Dame Kelly Holmes etc on every 60secs telling us their thoughts on everything? What a waste of time.

2) The show seemed to spend 95% of its time showing the clips that would show people up, the slaggings, being turned down etc. Very little positives from people who actually did well. The show over the last few series has for me gone down the X Factor route, where all the Dragons do now is try to come up with the wittiest put-downs. They used to offer advice but now they think they are the stars. They used to just say calmly 'dont think its a great idea and I am not interested in investing', but now they can't wait to call the inventor stupid, rip their finances to bits, call them an idiot, tell them how they are bored etc.

No !!!!, Most people resorted to booze, inane family chat and useless board games BECAUSE the scheduling was so pathetic. There was nothing better to do cos there was sweet FA to watch !!!

to be fair, the QI one was the outtakes, not compilation of previously seen stuff.......some hilarious stuff was cut too....wonder if that was on purpose so they could screen it later or just random cutting as most of the show is funny anyhow...lol

love to go see them filming that one day

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

Caught the Spice Girls programme on BBC1 yesterday evening
- a licence fee funded advert for their reunion tour / greatest hits

Noticed Geri/ginger go on about her 'glamour shots', and that they were 'only topless' - now that was BS from what I recall

gerat link.

Looking back they don't look so good but then they are only the BBC listings and of course ITV had the Star Wars films. Also people didn't have the same choice so the big Christmas films were quite often the first time people saw these films. I'd love to see listings for BBC ITV and Channel 4 over the Christmas period rather than just Christmas Day.

Re: Lazy Christmas Scheduling

The BBC have recently had a masive cut in their budget and I reckon that the rubbish scheduling is a direct result of that. I have seen the same programme listed 3 or 4 times over the week on BBC channels. They seem to be copying the cheaper freeview/satellite channels by constantly replaying cheap documentries or even cheaper 'top 100 whatevers.' It is a real shame that what was the best TV producing company in the world is in danger of becoming second rate.
