Lets be honest the studios/distributors already make use of "leaked" content to generate a "buzz" for marketing. Dr Who was leaked in a partially completed form and the hype it generated was huge, full premiere episodes have been offered officially by US networks this season along with "unofficial" screeners in the years before.
Sanctuary gave away a version of their Net only production in the hopes it would generate interest leading to retail sales.
The idea of acquiring content being totally wrong/illegal or unethical is based on a marketing and business model that is rapidly becoming irrelevant as the target consumer is no longer going to sit on their backsides and wait for the shows to turn up on broadcast TV or even DVD only.
Even now we have no idea if this early screener was leaked on purpose, it certainly isn't good enough to take the place of the finished article for any fan of the show and the floating watcher probably doesn't give a toss anyway
However it's suddenly brought Ark of Truth into the SG1 spotlight bringing lots of publicity with no down side to the content owners, makes you wonder who exactly leaked the screener doesn't it
On a personal note I have 9 seasons of retail DVD's on my shelf, I'll buy the tenth since it doesn't look like a HD release is coming and I'll snap up the two DVD movies at launch. Watching the US and Canadian broadcasts via the net never negated my SKY1 viewing or DVD purchasing of the show, no loss to any content owner/providers.
That is where the whole anti-piracy argument falls flat on it's face, it's almost impossible to quantify a loss to a content owner based on watching a screener unlike stealing a DVD from a shop yet that is the core argument for the industry which is locked in a business model that is no longer the only option for the consumer.
