Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

Ok, I am a Spooks fanatic, but this last series has just been awesome. Given that they took the format in a slightly different direction, in that it was a story over the 10 episodes (rather than singular) I was a little concerned, but needn't of been.

The scriptwriters deserve special praise, as well as the usual brilliant performances from the cast. The only thing I can fault is Jo's (Miranda Raison) new short hair do Still the hottest babe on small and big screen though.

So, who thinks she has copped it ? I think Adam maybe knocked her out, but the build up to the last few minutes was the best yet. I was seriously on the edge of my chair with the adrenaline pumping.

Aboslutely brilliant, and I would urge anybody who has not yet seen this series to go and get the box sets (which are appearing in sales now). 10/10

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

Yeah its copied 24's structure of singe story. But yes its been excellent, and is she or isnt she, is a little cliche now - are they dead or alive - Ros, The Iranian woman Ros pretended to shot, Jo, the woman who injected Ross, im just nit-picking , but this series is a must see.

But never less it was quite emotional, you could feel the terror in her eyes at being torchured, but it just think, if he waited... with the swat type team coming in for the rescue, it all might be too late. Is Keeley Hawes is back filming for Spooks?, if yes, then Jo might be a gonna.

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

Truly an awesome series. The best so far. Cannot think of a dull moment the entire series. I really had no idea how they would hold the final episode up above the rest but my word the writers deserve a pat on the back chilling stuff

Emotional isn't the word for it. I was so wrapped up in the finale that at the end I felt like I had been watching a 3 hour movie. I cannot even bear to think about watching 24 this season as anything after this will be a disappointment. I think it was everything that 24 has tried to be ever since the end of its first season

Acting was spot on, and the end was.. well, perfect.

I think he put her to sleep

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

I enjoyed this series, but thought the actual single story arc had over-reached itself - the writing just didnt sustain it over the 10 weeks, hence the Yalta storyline.

I also am bemused that this elite unit of spies are now down to 1 field operative and his trainee reporter

I think the ending is deliberately vague, to give them scope to kill her off or bring her back for the next series. I also think they are trying to make Adam into a Jack Bauer clone (wife killed - check, do the dirtiest work required - check, kill a colleague - check!.....just hope he isnt a junkie in the next series after going under cover!)

Despite all the above, I did really enjoy it, poor Saf though, not getting a proper death scene

your right, totally emotional. I was nearly in tears myself. Really felt for her, and the whole episode led you to feel that way, in that she was confiding in Adam. She was getting petrified about her safety and played the part beautifully. I would go as far as to say that it was the best piece of acting I have seen from any actress in any television drama. Deserves a gong

Did not like the huge story line over 10 episodes although in the past there been linked sub plots over a number of episodes.

The CIA bloke going rogue was silly how many times will I want to retire with a bit of money be used.

Said from the start Jo's cropped hair was terrible, does not suit her face makes her eye look too big..

There was a fair bit of there dead Oh no ther not. 3 I can think of on the spur of the moment. I suppose Jo's fate could be down to negotiations and avalability for the next series.

Why did they not conclude the story line than have a cliff hanger which will last about 42 weeek

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

As ever i enjoyed it. The fact that they never shy away from killing off a major character is one thing that puts it above many other dramas.

I didn't like the idea of a single story line (we have 24 for that), but when it turned out to be really linked stories i was pleased.

And that haircut of Jo - please someone put her out of her misery.....

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

Never really seen Spooks before but a workmate recommended it so I watched the last half dozen or so episodes.

Cracking stuff.

Occupied the Tuesday 9pm spot. Essential viewing. Even put CSI Miami on the PVR to watch after

If the BBC released the series on HD DVD, i'm a certain buyer

edit: one issue though.

When Ros's gravestone was shown a few episidodes back. I remember seeing the year - 1973

That would make her the same age as me

She looks more than 34 Almost old enough to be my Mum

Perhaps the show is set in 2017

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

just watched Series 6 over three nights, having not had time to watch it last year
- amazing series in my view , Tom, Zoe and Danny are now a distant memory

Btw spinoff series Spooks: Liberty (former working title, Rogue Spooks) begins soon (apparently this month according to some chatter) on BBC3 and BBC HD, 10 x 60min episodes.

There have been rumours that its a direct continuation of series 6 with various crossovers and cameos. It now seems to be described in a few places as ...
Spooks: Liberty is an upcoming spin-off series from the BBC television show Spooks. It is about MI5 officers who “follow a different rulebook”. The new “Spooks: Liberty” series is set in the “near future” and covers a “catastrophic event” affecting the whole of London. A group of new young MI5 recruits who “don’t play by the usual rules” have to orchestrate the recovery operation from various remote locations somewhere outside the capital.

I thought those relationships were encouraged

btw its not just Matthew and Keeley. Miranda and Raza are also a married couple ... i.e. Jo and the late Zaf (though I'm convinced we haven't seen the last of him)

An excellent season to be sure but best of 2007? Not for me. My vote would be between Blade The Series, Dexter, The Wire, The Unit, The Lost Room, Daybreak, & Rescue Me. Best of British by a mile though.

Any news on Spooks: Liberty, I haven't heard anything more about it and wanna make sure I don't miss it!

Something else 'coming soon' to BBC One; just caught a trailer for it before the 10pm News. Looks to be of interest to Spooks viewers, like The State Within a year or two ago.

This press release from last March mentioned a late 2007 transmission.

The Last Enemy revealed in new BBC One thriller

Category: TV Drama; BBC One
Date: 09.03.2007

Benedict Cumberbatch, Max Beesley and Bafta-winner Anamaria Marinca are caught up in a love triangle in The Last Enemy, a visionary new thriller for BBC One from Box TV.

Also starring Robert Carlyle, David Harewood, Eva Birtwistle and Geraldine James, The Last Enemy takes an arresting and compelling look at how technology could transform Britain into a surveillance society – threatening human relationships and destroying trust.

The five-part contemporary drama, by acclaimed screenwriter Peter Berry (Prime Suspect 6, Kiszko – A Life For A Life), follows a group of characters - including a scientist, an aid worker and a desperate father - who are each trying to deal with crises in their own lives when they unwittingly get caught up in a global mystery.

Producer Gub Neal says: "The Last Enemy is an emotional odyssey about a man in search of the truth of what happened to his brother, and to his society. It's a cautionary tale about technology, with identity cards, biometric tests and armed police becoming an everyday presence in our lives.

"It's predictive, rather than science fiction, because CCTV cameras and loyalty cards mean we are already being monitored."

Polly Hill, the BBC's commissioning editor for independent drama, adds: "The Last Enemy is a sophisticated and intelligent piece in which an innocent man finds himself at the centre of a mystery with far reaching consequences.

"It's both a love story and a thriller, with plenty to entertain and stimulate viewers. I'm sure it will be food for thought."

She adds: "Peter Berry’s powerful script will be brought to life by our excellent cast which includes some of the UK’s fresh acting talent. I’m delighted we have secured such a strong ensemble."

The Last Enemy is the latest in a line-up of dynamic British thrillers on BBC One and follows in the rich footsteps of State Of Play, The State Within and the forthcoming Jekyll.

Max Beesley is well known for his starring roles in Hotel Babylon for BBC One and dark medical drama Bodies for BBC Three. He has also appeared in other popular BBC dramas Hustle and Fields Of Gold.

Max's first break was playing the title role in the mini-series The History Of Tom Jones – A Foundling and he has also appeared in Bloodlines and Anita And Me. Before turning to acting in his 20s, Max was a successful session musician.

Benedict Cumberbatch won a Bafta nomination for his portrayal of the young Stephen Hawking in BBC Two's dramatisation of the famous scientist's life, Hawking.

His reputation as an exciting new talent was further confirmed with roles in To The Ends Of The Earth, Spooks and Tipping The Velvet.

Benedict stars in new BBC/HBO co-production Stuart: A Life Backwards, and his film work includes Starter for 10, Amazing Grace and forthcoming movies Atonement, with Keira Knightley, and The Other Boleyn Girl, with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson.

Anamaria Marinca became the first Romanian actress to win a Bafta award in 2005 for her role as Elena in Channel 4's Sex Traffic, which also won her other honours including the Royal Television Society's best female actress award.

She has performed extensively on the international stage and her other TV roles include Hotel Babylon for BBC One.

Anamaria also appears in Francis Ford Coppola's new film Youth Without Youth.

The Last Enemy (1 x 90 minutes, 4 x 60 minutes) is made by Box TV, whose credits include Sweeney Todd, Gunpowder Treason And Plot, Jimmy McGovern's award-winning film Sunday and BBC One's Christmas hit The Wind in the Willows.

The drama is directed by Iain B MacDonald (Mansfield Park, Hotel Babylon) and the executive producers are Justin Thomson-Glover, Patrick Irwin and Adrian Bate for Box TV and Rebecca Eaton for WGBH/Boston. The Last Enemy is a Box TV production for the BBC and WGBH/Boston.

Shooting began in February in London and Romania, with transmission due later this year on BBC One.

Re: Spooks : Series 6 - best program 2007 ? (spoilers)

All I keep hearing is coming soon to BBC3, starring Joanne Froggatt
- what disturbs me is that I hear it is aimed primarily at a younger teen-early20s audience, hence the BBC3 positioning ... just hope that doesn't mean too many compromises and style over substance like Torchwood series 1

Normal Spooks is expected to be back as normal but with 8 rather than the usual 10 episodes ... with no word on whether Jo is back

Rogue Spooks / Spooks: Liberty is now Spooks: Code 9
- apparently it is still filming in Bradford (doubling as Manchester), and will air later in the year, perhaps just before or after Spooks S7
