charlie jade

new on FX tonight at 8:00pm.

looks quite interesting, plot being that while on a hunt for the killer of a woman with no identity detective charlie jade is proppelled by a bomb blast into a strange parallel universe.

anyone heard much about this series, ive set it to record tonight but only seen a couple of trailers for it, looks interesting though.

Thanks for the reminder, totally forgot about it
There are a couple of CJ threads already if you do a search.

Not a bad night for TV with CJ, Ugly Betty returning, QI and The Tudors.

Re: charlie jade

I saw the first episode on a DVD that came with SFX magazine. It seems a decent enough programme. A bit too dark during the first half of the programme, but I like the way it developed. Will put this on my Sky+ and give it a try.

I really enjoyed the first episode and it looks like it's going to be an intriguing series. I can't wait until next week to see the next episode... By the way is it repeated ?

I downloaded the first ep a couple of years ago and stopped after 10 minutes or so, didn't grab me but watching via the DVR has a different feel so stuck it out and I quite enjoyed the episode.

Re: charlie jade

I have to admit I love the stylised Blade Runner-esq look and feel to Charlie Jade. I thought it was a nice touch having the different screen tints so you know which alternate universe you have just stepped into. Green is Alphaverse, blue is Betaverse and no tint being the Gammaverse. It looks like it's going to be a series rich in style and substance.

The only slight negative is some of the minor actors having a thick South African accent to their English making it harder to decipher what they're saying. But that's just me I'm not very good with heavy accents.

Why Tim? It's one of the more interesting sci-fi shows currently on Sky! A large slowly unravelling story, some nice cinematography, style, substance and some interesting and unpredictable characters.

Re: charlie jade

It is painfully slow and knowing that it only made it to 20 episodes (did it finish the story?) means I will probably drop it too.

Also 4:3 is unwatchable nowadays!

Re: charlie jade

I suppose "slow" could be used to describe the story but I don't think it should be criticised for being very deliberate about how the story is unfolding. I can honestly see why no US broadcaster was interested, it would have died a death with it's pacing.

Personally I am loving it, it's riveting and the systematic revealing (to Charlie) of the circumstances works well even though as a viewer we are a dozen steps ahead.

Some older shows I have to watch pillar boxed while others I don't, this one I don't mind being stretched.

Re: charlie jade

I don't suppose anyone who is interested can find out if the series reaches a satisfactory conclusion?

I was so p1ssed off that I wasted 60-odd hours of my life following Threshold, Surface and Invasion last year only for them all to not reach a conclusion before being canned!

From what I have gathered and while trying to avoid spoilers there is some conclusion to the main arc but not a complete one.

I watched the same three shows and well apart from minor annoyance in that all 3 had no real conclusion I still enjoyed watching them and that's more important than the 30 seconds after the finale when you are throwing things at the TV and cursing US studio execs

I couldn't agree more I'm completely riveted to the story and its characters. I find it so much more interesting than say Stargate Atlantis which seems thoroughly boring by comparison even with faster pacing, higher production values and lush CGI.

In my honest opinion I think this is gonna be one of the more special shows shown in the UK this year, but a lot of people would be put off by the need to pay attention to details.

Re: charlie jade

A bit bizarre to see the first episode of Charlie Jade on Anytime this morning, now if they had done this back when the show premiered I guarantee FX would have a few more viewers for the show.
Still glad to see the the Behind The Scenes show, missed that on the normal channel

Re: charlie jade

I got to watch the whole of the series early last year. In my opinion it was an ok series. Bit weird in places and required a fair amount of patience.

If memory serves me right the season does tie up most of the story, whilst leaving it open for more.

Exclamation Re: charlie jade

I'd normally post this at the DVD Bargains forum, but it may well get overlooked there (so mods please don't move this post ) ....

Complete Season One 6-disc R2 SD DVD boxset is £11.97 @ www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0012GTPPM (+ P&P, unless you order other items and qualify for free delivery)
- apparently this complete season/series boxset is currently an Amazon exclusive and was released in March this year; otherwise you can purchase half-season boxsets from various retailers for around £12 to £14 each
- Amazon state that its 1.78:1, and I would hope/presume its anamorphic too
- apart from a very pricey Japanese R2 NTSC release (around 150-180 USD ), it doesn't appear to have been released in any other region or HD format, so I wouldn't hold your breath

I ordered together with a book I wanted (Alastair Campbell's Diaries - The Blair Years ) to take my order to just under £18 and also get free delivery

Btw just this month official mp3 podcast commentaries have started becoming available
- they're downloadable @ www.charliejade.net or iTunes <---- DIRECT LINK TO PODCAST ON iTunes

I picked this up a couple of months ago for around £35 and it's definitely worth the money even if I haven't watched the complete series yet. Compared to FX it's just wonderful seeing the show in anamorphic widescreen, looking so much better than on TV.

Once I've finished this message I'm going to checkout those pod cast commentaries, thanks so much for posting...

Edit: thank you so much for posting. I haven't listened to any but they feature "summer Brooks" who is also a part of the Babylon 5 pod casts http://www.farpointmedia.net/shows/babylon-podcast/ (which are excellent) so I'm extremely looking forward to listening to them!

Re: charlie jade

I've just finished watching Charlie Jade and I have to say I really enjoyed the show. It's a shame it never got picked up for a second-season because it was very good. Completely refreshing from the usual US made filmed in Canada sci-fi we usually see.

I've really enjoyed the unpredictability of the show and its characters, keeping me guessing right until the very end. The finale could have been better aswell inho but pretty much tied everything up, while as hudz said Charlie Jade has been left open to be continued.

I found it quite a satisfying series that is well worth giving the time of day to if you haven't already.
