Nuts TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

The continuing and depressing decline of British broadcasting, and the rise of chav culture as a major consumer force. But even someone as cynical as me did not think it could get this low. Gut wrenching. It's like watching a car crash. There must be some reasonably intelligent people behind this venture, they should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

I don't normally post rants like this, but it's just so shocking it's unreal.

(fellow mod, please change title to "Nuts")

Re: Nut TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

I watched "bedtime reading with..." which consisted of a woman, in underwear, reading about two pages from War of the Worlds, while the camera strolled up and down her body.

Also there was the "brunette vs blonde challenge" which allowed you to text/phone in for either sumo or pogo-racing, the latter won, so had two young "ladies" bouncing towards the camera on modern pogo-stick-things around a cone then back again (lots of jiggling etc) - both very intellectual and thought provoking

I had been hoping to catch the GadgetGirl show, with Emily Booth, but the EPG fails to reflect what the content actually is, so if anyone knows when this is meant to be on... much appreciated; or probably not, given the quality of the rest of Nuts.TV (channel 42).

I passed this channel the other day (wasn't airing as it was early) is this to do with Nuts magazine? How do small companies afford their own channel?

Haven't seen this, but it sounds like a reincarnation of the god awful Livetv.

Do they have a bouncing weatherman and topless news?

Re: Nut TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

It's not even funny in the post modern ironic way, that stopped (if it ever started) being funny about 5 years ago (at the same time the decline of Loaded and HFM started). I dont often get on my high horse over stuff like this, but they must be some kind of decency laws or TV standards? But then the Daily Star newspaper and the Sport have been doing this kind of level of stuff for years, cheap advertising funded trash TV is the next logical stage i guess.

I know, i know, if you dont like it dont watch it and all that - thats true, fair point. And i'm not into censorship in general. I just find it depressing how TV culture (and culture in general) is so rapidly in decline, just so a few select people can get richer.

Re: Nut TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

I wish they'd have a minimum quality requirement for these channels, then if they can't make the grade free up the space for one or two HD channels like the BBC intend providing on freeview at some point in the future.

Same goes for all those '+1' channels. They're totally pointless seeing as most households have a PVR or equivalent these days.

I'd gladly ditch most of the current channels, that are usually full of complete dross or ancient re-runs, for one or two quality HD channels.

I have to disagree with you on this. I wish there were more of these +1 and even +2, +3 etc etc..

There are so many great shows aired at the same time (e.g the 9o'clock slot that its great to be able to see one of them after the other showing again at 10.

Also the ability to watch a show live then half way through wish you'd recorded it to keep as its a great programme.

Or how about flicking channels at 9.45 only to catch the end of a show you really wanted to see and now have the ability to watch it on the +1 channel from start to finish!

I for one love the +1 channels and wish that BBC had them and many others.

Re: Nut TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

Haven't caught nuts yet, looks like i'll give it a wide bounce...i mean berth...

...i wish they hadn't replaced film4+1 with channel 4+1, it's very rare that i manage to get in from work and turn the tv on before 9, meaning that i never catch the beginning of the 9 o'clock film and was therefore always watching, or realising something was on and recording, film4+1...

Re: Nut TV on Freeview - has anyone had the pleasure yet?

Not wishing to take this thread off on a tangent, but I have to disagree with PAH. I love the +1 channels and wish there were more of them. Even though I have Sky+ I never watch anything live, it is all recorded so if two or three programmes are on at the same time, which is possible during the peak viewing periods, it really messes things up. These +1 channels are superb for ensuring I can record everything I want.

I suppose with Sky there's room for plenty of +1 channels, but on Freeview I think they hog too much bandwidth, and channels like Nuts and other lower quality channels may mean there's no room for HD on Freeview until after the big switchover to digital, at the very earliest.

Anyway, people are only loving the +1 channels because we don't yet have the technology that records everything all the time and we can choose what to watch at our leisure. That would be nirvana, no repeats at all as we'd have everything already! I'm sure something like that will come at some point, though not as soon as we'd like. In the meantime all the newish download services are starting to fill that gap.

So there may be room for Nuts TV afterall, just not on Freeview yet please!
