your favourite film intro ?

I thought i'd start a disscusion on what our favourite
opening film scenes are...

Personally the opening 10 minutes of full metal jacket
is just amazing.. u know the one where the Sgt Major chap
just rips the **** out of the new marine recruits.
im not sure whether this guy won any awards for this role.
for me he deserve an oscar. just brilliant.

(how i wish we had a widescreen version of this classic. its criminal that they released this film in lousy 4:3)

my other choice along with im sure others is
saving private ryan... enough said.

brian.......

I think the intro to goldmember was pretty funny, spoofing his own film with, tom cruise an gwyneth paltrow.

Brian, the 4:3 version is full frame rather than pan and scan. This means you can mask the film down yourself to get the correct aspect ratio.

A little bit ol' skool, but the beginning of 2001: ASO.

More recently, I'd agree that Goldmember and Goldeneye have great intros. In fact any film beginning with "Gold". Hmmm... I'm obviously onto something here...

MuFu.

P.S. Gold Pulp Fiction is great, yeah.

Close to it is the first 8 minutes of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) with Henry Fonda as a real bad dude. No talking for the entire 8 minutes, it's absolutely brilliant.

I think the great man Kubrick only shot films in 4:3 ratio

I agree, to this day that opening scene when the the shot is over the bottom of the star destroyer and the ship just keeps on coming and coming as a kid it blew me away and still does, Lucas had his moments!
