Exclamation Heroes - BBC2 Transmissions (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!)

Hi,

I've started this thread for those of you who either haven't seen "Heroes" yet, or don't want to risk seeing any spoilers. So, here goes.

"Heroes" (Season 1) will start to air on BBC2 uncut on Wednesday 25th July at 9pm! There is also certainly likely to be at least one late-night uncut repeat, and an early family-friendly evening repeat as well. However, no details on whether or not the repeats will be aired in HD.

The two pieces of bonus news are as follows:

BBC2 will also show "Heroes" on their BBC-HD channel via Sky, and there is to be a "Heroes" mini-series spin-off entitled "Heroes: Origins". The spin-off will last for just six episodes, and each episode will showcase a new character. Viewers in the USA will then be able to vote for which character they want to join the rest of the cast for Season 2 of the main show!

Hope that cheers a few of you up! And please can we keep spoilers OUT of this thread. Nothing should be mentioned unless the episode has aired on BBC2! With thanks!

July 25th!!!!!

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, i'm away that week! So gutted! Any chance it'll be repeated before the next episode the week after? Like Monday? I guess not! So gutted! I'm really looking forward to this, I'll cry actual tears if I miss the first episode!

Anywhere online I can watch the 1st episode without downloadnig it. Dont think my massive paperweight could deal with the download!!!

Does that mean we can't mention the bit where Hiro teleports onto the Lost island and is attacked by Cylons, then escapes with the help of Michael Scofield? Damn!

Exclamation Re: Heroes - BBC2 Transmissions (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!)

Afternoon People,

As far as I know, all the Sci-Fi transmissions were uncut, but I've got no specifics to suggest they cut anything. Bearing in mind the timeslot was almost always after 9pm, I expect they were uncut. (The pre-9pm transmissions may have been slightly edited for language, or the stronger moments of violence though.)

The BBC versions will, like the Sci-Fi versions, also be uncut for the 9pm or post-9pm transmissions. BUT the major difference is that not only will they be in Widescreen , meaning you get to see the show exactly as it was intended to be seen, but the show will also be aired in Hi-Def on the BBC HD channel via Sky and Virgin Media.

An early-evening more family-friendly version is also expected to be aired, though there is no official word on when or how this will air. (I expect it will be like the BBC did with later seasons of "Buffy"!)

ChrispyPhillips - I have no other transmission details yet. As soon as I hear of any episode one repeats, I'll do my best to post in this thread. I'm sure that Episodes will be repeated, but exactly when, I don't know yet. Sorry.

PMC & Leprekorn - Now, now boys, play nicely in this thread! Personally, I bet Hiro turns up on the Titanic, in the Dr Who Christmas Special, whilst Claire gets a bit of bedroom action with Kylie!

Re: Heroes - BBC2 Transmissions (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!)

Two episodes being shown back to back on Wed 25th from 9pm on BBC 2 and simulcast on BBC HD (all according to the Radio Times) There is a late night repeat the following day, Thursday. On the down side it looks like episode 1 will be the shortened 40 min. version and not the 53 min. version first shown in the US

Wow some people are never satisfied-Only kidding, still giddy at the BBC HD news. Can't comment on 5.1 question. Nobody on any forum has asked that before as far as I'm aware.

Re: Heroes - BBC2 Transmissions (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!)

Dumb question time; is BBC HD free to air? and if so what channel number does it normally default to?

Quite looking forwards to Heroes, given the positive chat and things like Supernatural, Prison Break finishing.

EDIT: poo. http://www.bbc.co.uk/digital/tv/tv_hd.shtml

You also need a satellite dish or cable connection.

The programmes are being broadcast via satellite and cable, but not on digital terrestrial as there is currently not enough space (bandwidth). You don't need to pay a subscription to watch programmes on the BBC HD trial (available on cable or satellite).

You can only access BBC HD if you have a relevant Sky Digital HD and/or Virgin Media HD compatible subscription and set-up. Without one of those, I'm afraid it'll be regular BBC2 versions for you. Sorry.

Not quite correct Pooch. You can buy HD satellite boxes that can recieve BBC HD free to air, no card or subscription to Sky needed. Not all digital satellite is Sky.

Re: Heroes - BBC2 Transmissions (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!)

40 minutes per episode is unusually short. Most U.S. "one hour" shows tend to be about 42 minutes without the ads, and you'd expect a couple of extra minutes for trailers and idents, making a 45 minute slot in total. The old BBC2 early evening SF & fantasy slot used to be 45 minutes. Are we being robbed?

You haven't mentioned Heroes Unmasked. A 15 minute behind the scenes episode. It's similar to Doctor Who Confidential.

On past performance, i doubt it, but i'd love to be proven wrong.

The only DD5.1 stuff i have seen on BBCHD has been BBC stuff such as Torchwood and Planet Earth, plus wimbledon live. Most dramas have been in stereo, as have, disappointingly, films.

looking forward to this show, though

I should imagine the amount they are reported to have paid will mean it's a UK exclusive, so I doubt season 2 will appear on Sci-Fi at all.
