Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

It's a long wait. Surprised that Sky didn't pick this up after success of Battlestar. Always feel a little uncomfortable about having to watch things on ITV....I think Entourage is the only programme I have watched on any of the ITV channels in the last 10 years!

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

I really can't understand why these TV channels wait so long to show this sort of stuff, surely they must a high percentage of what few viewers they'd get anyway, with it buried away on ITV2.

If it's any good, I would think the demographic it's aimed up are well up on downloading TV shows and will have watched it already, the DVDs will probably be out on R1 well before it ever appears on ITV2 as well.

I'm not quite as anti ITV as you are but I hate ITV 2, 3 & 4 because of the logos. I won't bother with it as a result.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Perhaps by then ITV will have their new Dsat capacity up and running and the PQ on their channels will be better, even the DTT version is poor.
However I am no waiting a year for ITV to get around to showing it even if by some miracle Freesat HD is with us

When they say winter 2008 do they mean January/February?

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

I would think so. Winter doesn't officially start until the middle of December does it? I can't see them starting it just before Christmas. So Jan/Feb 2008 rather than Dec 2008 would seem likely.

Still can't see the sense in waiting so long. They aren't exactly overrun with quality programmes filling the schedule on ITV2 are they? (Or any of the other ITV channels for that matter )

I think it starts on 26/09/07 in the states. So presumably that means ITV will have to wait a while to build up extra episodes to cover the numerous US schedule breaks. Hopefully they will show it Jan/Feb till May/June meaning we will only end up the odd week behind US.

cheers, count

I recone it'll be the us scheduling, gives ITV a chance for a clean run.

The last season of The Office US regular breaked, it started in Sept and didn't finish till May - US scheduling is worst than the UK

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

It never ceases to amaze me why people can't wait a few months for the UK showing, especially since it's more likely to have a complete run with no breaks. I could never watch a weekly show that has countless breaks every few episodes it would drive me mad, or I would possibly give up on the programme.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Well for one thing you never now if/when there will actually be a UK showing, I could go into a rant about how channels like C4 treat it's US imports, but I won't

For another thing, it's much easier to avoid spoilers and join in with discussions than if you're days behind rather than months/years.

I think it's pretty much a certainty that some channel in the UK it is bound to pick it up, even if it gets cancelled and only lasts a dozen episodes. As for avoiding spoilers it's fairly easy if you stick to British forums, for example this place has separate UK/US pace threads.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Which is fine if you happen to have Sky (which I do) what if your stuck with Virgin (no Sky One, so no Lost, 24 and a few others) or Freeview or just terrestrial?

It used to be the case that stuff would air on satellite (being generic here, not particularly referring to Sky) then turn up on terrestrial, sooner or later. Now it seems, if it's on satellite unless it's something big (Heroes) terrestrial don't bother. Using C4 as an example, Nip/Tuck they showed the first couple of seasons then gave up, NYPD Blue 2 or 3 year gap on C4 for the final seasons, Third Watch started showing it then stopped, The West Wing shunted around all over the place on C4/E4 etc... until they dumped it on More 4, great unless you haven't got Freeview/Sky that's just a few examples off the top of my head.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Alas the number of households who don't have access to "free" digital channels are now in a minority and well you can not really do much about those who can not afford or choose not to pay more than the license fee for TV entertainment.

The sad fact is that if a show is not doing the business on any channel it won't survive although it has to be said that many broadcasters cripple shows by editing to fit an inappropriate timeslot.
Thankfully the boom in terrestrial spinoffs via digital means that more shows can be shown in primetime and hence have a better chance of pulling in decent numbers so the joke that was Alias and Angel (shown in kiddie time) and the others mentioned are becoming a thing of the past.

Of course the stupidity of schedulers who may have zero interest in a show or TV in general will never go away.

Didn't Lee Majors (The Bionic Man) cringefully 'sing' "Jamie" in the pilot episode when she dumped him/forgot who he was?

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Not a bad pilot, not entirely sure I like the direction its going in though (bit matrixy in its stunts, and reminded me of The Universal Soldier in places). Michelle Ryan did ok and I loved Katee Sackhoff as the 'original bionic woman'.

Apparently changes are already being made to this pre-air though, with the deaf sister being replaced and the character no longer deaf. Also it seems Sackhoff's character may only appear in cameos throughout the series.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Yeah it needs some work but it was a pilot so allowances have to be made.
The stunts were poor, the deaf sister is just such a cliched plot point these days and well Michelle was slightly less wooden than in Jekyll.

It could be a solid action/adventure show but I don't see anything significant coming from the special op/covert element.

Glad to see that they may be losing the deaf sister idea (I'm not a fan of the actress who played her either)...waaay too overdone.

Kinda influenced by The Crow too, what with all the dark and the rain..plus Katee's character..Sarah Corvus...Corvus=Crow...geddit?!

If they tried to make a it hybrid of Bionic Woman/Alias it'd be a huge improvement.

Re: Bionic Woman on ITV2 in winter 2008

Not too bad for the first episode, although some of the special effects need reworking;

When she was running throught the forest, she looked more akin too Speedy Gonzalez, and why can't they use normal helicopters instead of cgi ones.

Also she got hit by a truck, not a car!

And what was with the Prision Break music when she returned home!!

Must try harder!!!

45mins-ish, and it wasnt broadcast at all......I think the tv studios are releasing these pre-airs for deliberate internet distribution in order to build up hype and more importantly get some feedback. Kinda like a viral focus group

green light yes, not sure on the air date though - tv.com have 26th Sep listed as the air date, but I thought I read somewhere that it wouldnt be until Jan 08??

I suppose it might depend on the reaction to the pre-air, if its positive then they might air in Sep I suppose
