Smile Studio 60

Hi anyone know when this starts on Sky. I believe it's produced by the same guys as the West Wing.

Re: Studio 60

I liked the pilot, it started with a storm at the studio. And then the new boys were introduced to the tv studio, the writing was goood, i think i might like this show, makes a change from cop, serial killers, time travelling, legal, - shows.

the only problem is , is that it has been axed after just one season!

Or maybe it's just not any good

While I thought it was OK, it's nowhere near as good as The West Wing.

Re: Studio 60

I saw the pilot and it kept my attention which is a hard task for most of todays programs.

Got episode 2 sky+ed from last night but might not bother if there's no season 2 since there will almost definatley be a lot of unanswered stuff at the end.

The writers/producers knew they were getting the chop so unlike a lot of shows there is a conclusion to the majority of the story lines, I certainly wasn't as annoyed by the finale as I have been for other shows which left major arcs unfinished

I didn't know they had axed this Stateside Pitty as I'm enjoying what I've seen so far. I thought having the same creators/writers as The West Wing would have brought the show some leaway with the real studio execs

absolutely agree, lost count of the amount of series I have tried in last 2 years that I stopped watching, only ones that have lasted so far is Nip Tuck (although losing it now), 4400 (still undecided on this new series but will brobably bin), Las Vagas (couldn't watch past series 2), Invasion (about 3 episodes) etc etc. Studio seems to have the depth of writing and acting that should hold my attention; but didn't know there was only 1 series. But then Firefly only had one, but it was a good one !!

That was a crime too. I've never claimed to be the worlds biggest sci-fi fan but a friend of mine lent me the box set and I ended up watching the whole series in a couple of days.

lmao, me too, I hate sci-fi, super heros, comic book charaters and all those types of films !!

But went to visit a friend of mine for a few days and he put it on, it was very good.

Re: Studio 60

I've just watched the whole of this without knowing it was cancelled
There's a lot of rumours about why it was cancelled, but it looked like an expensive show to make although you'd think that the set would need another season to pay for itself!
I much preferred the first few episodes (up to the classic John Goodman double bill) where it seemed a bit edgey and was genuinely sharp and funny. I only laughed a bit in the last few and I thought that the whole war plot was far too sledgehammer/obvious.

I've never seen West Wing - I always assumed that the politics would be far too sledgehammer in a similar way to this, but most people are saying it was better than S60, so maybe I'll take a look.

On the whole I definitely enjoyed it, but I always thought it could be just slightly sharper/funnier. I found it hard to swallow that the show was meant to be a comedy sketch show, but all the sketches shown weren't very funny at all.

Re: Studio 60

The West Wing is so much better than S60, you owe it to yourself to watch it

I agree with you totally on S60 though. It think it would have worked much better if they'd either got proper comedy writers in to write proper sketches/songs or just didn't show them at all, much like with the presidential speaches in TWW, you only ever got to hear snippets of them, never the whole thing.

Re: Studio 60

A good programme but as a West Wing fanatic, not really in the same league.
Having said that, let us be grateful for small mercies. There have been some great lines in the shows that have been aired on More 4, and clearly when Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford are on screen, there"s some magic. I wonder if this show could have had a life for a few shorter seasons on say HBO or Showtime rather than gambling on going for some ratings on NBC?

Re: Studio 60

I also thought the last few eisodes were poor when compared with the first half of the season. Still loved it though, some of the Matt Perry/Bradley Whitford exchanges were gold. Maybe HoBO should pick this up and continue it, they have nearly all my other faveorite American shows, lol

I am still watching and enjoying it, I just Sky+ as with everything so don't have to watch 25 mins of adverts per 1hour viewing !

BTW, anyone not seen West Wing, get it, you will never regret it. IMHO it is easily THE greatest TV series EVER made. Stories, writing, casting, acting and directing just simply stunning.

It seems all the Americans I know prefer watching Monty Python, Faulty Towers and Benny Hill like they were new not not 30 years old.

Re: Studio 60

wasn't it more a case of NBC choosing between Studio 60 the ''dramedy' or 30 Rock the sitcom?

- and Tina Fey probably has more friends than Aaron Sorkin

Quite a few industry types reckon that it was because Studio 60 was a bit close to the bone for studio exec's liking. Either way, it's a shame.
