Re: New Docotor Who assistant

This might just be for the christmas special.

Strangely in an interview for the metro a couple of days ago, the current assistant (don't know her name) stated she had not finished with the Dr and expected to be doing a lot more programs.

Thumbs down Re: New Docotor Who assistant

Well I seen pretty much most of all the Dr Who storeys one way or an other back to Unearthly Child and pretty much enjoyed them all taking into account the age of them, although some of the latter Tom Baker onward were a bit iffy and some Sylvester McCoy where downright stupid in parts.
The reincarnation has been hit and miss for me generally RTD scripts have been silly, farical and bad and non RTD scripts more serious and good.
Also I not liked the whacky way DT portrays the Doctor and also Simm’s Master, if Tate anything less than 100% serious which I doubt that’s it good night Vienna, Ill not be bothering again with the series (at least I hope so not unless I have masochistically tendencies).

Re: New Docotor Who assistant

i could stand her for 1 episode but a whole series is going is going to be annoying! they'll need to tone her down a lot!! but i can't see RTD doing that, he seems intent on turning doctor who into a pantomime, the finale was really daft (i still enjoyed it) but it was really really daft.

Yes, I somehow suspect that series "three" will be the last series I'll have paid much attention to. Catherine is one of those "comedians/ennes" who, sadly, I find simply grating. So unless she's utterly, utterly different, I'll find it insufferable, I guess.

I just about managed to put up with her for the Christmas show but there's no way that I'd be able to last a whole series with that screeching harpy.

I thought Freema was coming back. Come back Freema, please spare us from this!

Similar feelings here.

Was ok in the Christmas episode for a one-off, but I don't think I could put up with 'it' for an extended period!

Exclamation Re: New Docotor Who assistant

Hi,

This is definitely one way to really shed the viewing figures for Series 4! Just think - 13 whole weeks of ruddy Catherine Tate! Please will someone come and me now?!

Of all the characters they could have chosen to utilise, why in god's name did they choose her?! She's not funny in as a comedian, not that talented as an actress and is probably seen as one of the least enjoyable characters in the show's revamp history.

Who thinks that Sally Sparrow (aka actress Carey Mulligan) should have been brought-in to the show instead?!

I can see Kylie Minogue beating seven-shades-of-s*it out of Tate, in any episodes that they both appear in! Or maybe Tate can be jettisoned to the end of the galaxy at the end of Episode 1 instead?

Re: New Docotor Who assistant

I know i am reading in to it too much but if you notice through all the press releases this week then never mention david tennent it is allways the doctor but as soon as the christmas special is mentioned they do say it is him. Got me thinking maybe a new doctor for series 4.

Also just to add Catherine tate is worst decision ever.

I think I read somewhere that Martha is in Torchwood, and that is why she can only do the second half of the next Doctor series.
Agree with everyone else though - Sparrow character not Tate's for next assistant

Re: New Docotor Who assistant

Among those who have bothered to vote, the BBC's own poll shows a lot of indifference to CT. I'm not sure I'd have phrased the poll the way they have - I'd have had a "you cannot be serious, can you?" option, but...

It is quite a large sample. I wonder how next season's viewing figures will compare.

So where is this BBC poll then? I want to express my displeasure in this poll (I've already sent them a feedback email, first time I've ever done that) and also I want to see just how unpopular she's proving to be.

Re: New Doctor Who assistant

Ok found the poll. Fekking hell! Didn't think she was THAT unpopular. Kind of reaffirms my faith in the general publics taste. Its not going to change her being on the show but knowing that she's not not going down too well might make her, the writers and the rest of the team really raise their game for the forth series. Which is a shame 'cos I still won't watch it because of her.

Re: New Doctor Who assistant

Thanks for the link to the poll LV426.

I've registered my displeasure as well.

Of the 3 "new" seasons we've had so far, I thought it peaked at season 2. The best Doctor, and the best companion. Season 3 had its stand out episodes (Blink being particularly memorable), but overall there was just something missing.

I liked Martha, but I preferred Rose. I'm really not looking forward to 13 episodes with Catherine Tate in them. I'll give her a chance, but its a very poor choice IMHO.

Ian.

Thumbs down Re: New Doctor Who assistant

Hi,

Cheers LV426 for the poll link, and I've now registered my displeasure on the Have Your Say part of the BBC Dr Who site too! It seems that almost everyone wants Tate banished, and replaced by Sally Sparrow (aka actress Carey Mulligan)! Let's hope the BBC and RTD listen to the viewers and make a change quick, otherwise I can see Dr Who's viewers leaving in droves!

Re: New Doctor Who assistant

I thought the Christmas episode was OK and Catherine Tate was good in it, but I wouldn't want the character as the new companion. It would completely change the show I think. Sally Sparrow would have been perfect for it.

If this isn't changed, I fear this being the last season of this current Doctor Who series.

Cool Re: New Doctor Who assistant

I think the poll questions are stupidly put I mean if you think about it the way the put it could be taken either way. Out of this World does that mean A) Great or B) your on whacky backey if you think its a good idea.

The other option Not bovvered sounds like a middle ground vote ie I dont think its a good idea nor is it a bad one.

Where’s the option that defines the above option 3)I hate the idea so much any one turning Doctor Who on with this woman in it will be staked out over an ants nest and covered in honey.

Re: New Doctor Who assistant

Bad, bad decision by the BBC methinks. They'll end-up regretting it.

Freema Agyeman is very well liked by alot of fans now, and they would be doing a wrong move by not bringing her back. Do the BBC think they need to bring in a new assistant every series to keep the program fresh?

Rediculous. I will not watch it if Catherine Tate becomes the new assistant.

Just an absolutely awful idea.

As nice as this would be, Carey Mulligan is a very talented and much in demand young actress, so I doubt she would want to commit to a 9 months/series schedule for one TV show

Throw some money at her! I think she would make the perfect sidekick to The Doctor.

Atleast Freema is returning half way through series 4. Hopefully, she'll bitch slap Tate off the show.

What are the producers thinking!
