Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I noticed the US screenings on the net and it didn't seem worth downloading (to me) but I'll probably add the CH4 screening to the DVR, it's costs nothing

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

Did anyone watch this on Channel 4 last night?

I liked it (although it was a chore staying up till 11:40 on a school night!) and found it dark and gritty. Exactly the sort of programme British TV has been crying out for. I loved its blend of dark humour, sadism and suspense. The 'unanswered story' angle, previously asked in programmes such as Lost, was answered pretty quickly in this one, but I feel that there will still be many questions raised, as to why each of the residents is there etc. I wont go on too much in case people havent seen it yet (I bet you've all recorded it on your fancy schmancy Sky +'s, or PVR's, you rotten posh lot!) but it was a breath of fresh air to see something compelling made in Britain, other than the usual garbage we're subjected to on a daily basis!

Looking forward to seeing how the series pans out.

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I really enjoyed it.

As Chrispyphillips said 'I loved its blend of dark humour, sadism and suspense'.

I did get the drift of why they were all there straight away, but their stories are turning out to be more sinister than I could have imagined. Jack 'of all' Trades is really spooky !
It's a bit freaky in a good way - reminds me a bit of 'Twin Peaks'.

Can't wait for the next installment

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I've seen through episode 5 in the US - not great television, but it does have something... (it's main problem, I think, is a little too much crisis and not quite enough coherent plot)...

We like 'crisis'

Looking forward to tonight's episode - is it just running for 6 episodes or is there another series planned as well ?

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

Watched the 2nd episode last night;

Still enjoying it, it does un nerve me in places. The goal keepers story about his dad was brilliant when he told his wife and it showed the picture on the wall behind him, very clever.

What is it about the doctor who keeps blurting things out to the other wife He's very strange.

I think the best actor is the son, Mark - fantastic character.

PaulLev, is the whole of the series about Jack's murder/missing body ?

Jack's body is the major event - as of Episode 5 - but there are other things going on, too ...

I think Mark and Zoe are the best two characters.

Ha, about crisis ... I haven't heard anything about the series being renewed - the sense I have is that it might not have done as well as Showtime had hoped, here in the States ... but the night is young, and anything can happen...

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I think the best character is the mum (how super hot is she?!)

Sorry to lower the tone, its a great programme, very gripping. Next weeks episode looks to be very interesting! Shame i'm gonna miss it, will have to get someone to tape it for me (or 4OD I suppose!)

That Zoe's quite hot too! Are her and the character 'mark' real life twins? If not, thats one hell of a good match by the casting director! They really could be if their not in real life!

This is really good now - you have got to watch it

Next week's clip shows that it's going to get even weirder (very Twin Peaks).

Loving it

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

It reminds me of a cross between Twin Peaks, The Prisoner and Brookside - although the result isn't greater than the sum of its parts.

It's pretty good viewing though and has got the wife and I hooked.

They are showing the last 2 episodes back to back tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm - won't get chance to watch both (too late for me ).

Last week it kind of explained that Samantha was her Dad's experiment 'Una' and that Cape Wrath did exist as an experiment and she tackles Danny about her involvement in Cape Wrath.

Cape Wrath is actually a place in Durness, Scottish Highlands, being the most North Westerly point on the British mainland.

wrath (rth, räth)
n.
1. Forceful, often vindictive anger. See Synonyms at anger.
2.
a. Punishment or vengeance as a manifestation of anger.
b. Divine retribution for sin.

Cape Wrath - name actually derives from the Norse word hwarf, meaning 'turning place'.

Please discuss...

Saw last episode last night - I guessed what we would see as he drove off.
I must admit I was disappointed with the end - I thought it was poor after such an eventful series.

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

*****Potential spoilers below*****

Yep, it was a bit of a cop out bearing in mind the rest was quite clever and well put together. Hopefully it'll be picked up for another series and we can see what happens next.

I also thought Danny's reaction to the fact he wasn't the father of his kids was a bit out of character. One week he's killing someone who was attacking his son, the next week he's leaving them behind? Okay, I'm not sure how I would react to the same news (god forbid!) but his kids were 17-18 years old and I find it difficult to believe that after all that time as a family he'd leave them to an uncertain but presumably unpleasant fate because his wife had a fling best part of 20 years ago....

Oh, and I wish that Tom fella would stop chewing that ruddy golf tee - very annoying!

I watched 4 episodes and gave up...it was boring.

Dexter, on the other hand, is absolutely riveting.

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I thought the whole thing had potential but it was so rushed .

Straight away the young girl falls in love with the handyman the first day the boy falls in love with the woman next door everyone us so up and down . The girl then falls for the golfer they turn detective instantly then he just stops cause hes warned off , and where the hell did the bar spring up from ???

I personally wouldve liked them to build a bit of suspense let them really like it there all of them ,then let the cracks appeare , each personal secret life couldve been really diverse .

I.e grow a charachter one who you really like then find out hes a murderer in his old life. He still could be good or bad.

I found all the charachters especially Danny so unlikable i didnt care what happened to them. They had a set like that and used about 7 charachters what a waste .

Youve got to have heroes even if they are anti heroes like The Sopranos.

The ending was very lame its been copied so many times before.

I personally think they had a great formula and failed to utilise it. The whole thing seemed suspensful because they relied on one thing that Cape Wraith was more than just a safe home for criminals and grasses ect so you wanted to know what that was but it was very lame. IMO

That's it wrapped up in a few words. Too much to do, in too little time. You can't cover Twin Peaks and The Prisoner in just eight episodes.

Re: Cape Wrath - Channel 4

I agree I thought the first ep was intreging and it could have been interesting, but then it died a death for me. The next three eps seemed to be the same & I stopped watching it.

Shame because it did look like a good idea for a story, but I don't think they knew what direction to take it.
