Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

As title

I just bought "OZ complete seasons 1-6" from ebay, as I found it here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/cus...ndex=0#gallery
Does anyone know if these are genuine discs?

Dvd profiler doesnt seem to rtecognise the UPC/EAN barcode number

As they seem to be fine, the discs have silver backs. Just a little worried there not right

Generally ebay and TV Boxsets (especially "complete" sets) are fake/pirated these days.

Obviously the one on Amazon is genuine, but I always ignore these complete sets on ebay.

Put the disc in a PC and have a look at the properties. If it comes up as 4.5GB then it's definitely dodgy, if it comes up as 9GB then it's more likely to be OK but still no guarantee.

I hope mines genuine then

The box it's self does look exactly like the one on Amazon, so hope it is.

Dvd Profiler doesnt seem to recognise the EAN code though

Is there a way of checking the EAN?

It's 7 21696 01074 5

I googled it and come up with it on this site:

http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.asp?upc=721696010745

Re: Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

Similar to Bokononists (what happened to WeeJock.....?) suggestion, If you have any programs like DVD decryptor, you can look up what the region the disc is actually coded. If its R1 only then it would be genuine, if all regions then a chance it would not be genuine.

Done a check on that UPC and seems to come up as Six Feet Ubder complete set on some sites which are obviously selling bootlegs.

Ah yes, WeeJock... long may he rest in peace.

I'm about to start reviews for AVPlay, and WeeJock's surname might not have been quite appropriate lol.

Indeed , no more of my screen being all over the place just to fit in that name.

May it live on, Bokonomist will always be WeeJock

I bought one of the Smallville seasons off eBay once. It was a pirate, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the box, it looked like a genuine box, properly shrink wrapped and everything, even had the little hologram sticker thing on it.

What gave it away was the colour of the underside of the discs and the soundtracks, I believe it had a DTS track, which I'm pretty sure none of the Samllville releases had and also Chinese subtitles. Was a very, very good copy though

Re: Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

General rule of thumb, if its on eBay and its cheap then its a bootleg.

I once bought a Star Trek TOS set and the seller just wouldnt admit it was a bootleg, kept coming up with reasons why in China they use DVD5's for everything, the packaging didnt even have the right series on it (had cast pic of Voyager) and the discs themself had pictures of Enterprise on them

Re: Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

In my (limited) experience, eBay is not a good place to buy DVDs. Genuine DVD sets on eBay usually go for more than you could buy them for elsewhere. You're better off using a price comparison site like www.rightpriceguide.co.uk, or (for R1) checking out the marketplace sellers at www.amazon.com. Even secondhand DVD sets on eBay often go for more than you could pay for a new set elsewhere!

Re: Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

With my pirated Smallville, I emailed the seller saying i knew it was a bootleg, asking for a refund and a return address to send them back.

I had my refund within a couple of hours, but despite two or three further emails, I never got a return address. So it just shows hown much money they must be making if they can right off £20 or so without even wanting the discs back.

And I left the guy some positive feedback too.

Well I have just checked the discs in dvd decrypter and it appears that they are bootlegs, not apparent in the picture quality at all, and the discs all have a silver back to them, but bootlegs are bootlegs.

How should I word the messege to him? as I dont really want any trouble

I would send a message saying that you have concerns about the set, explaining what you have found and that you would like a refund (assuming you do).

He wont want negative feedback left for him. If he chooses not to repond or says no, then you can always threaten him with further action through ebay or even FACT.

I certainly want a refund as I dont really want bootleg dvds.
Just looked at an invoice email he sent me from a different email address and it has postal info for postal order/cheques etc on there, but its a po box address. I dont know if I'd feel comfortable posting it to that, and it states on the ad that you have to send the discs back before a refund can be made

I left him positive feedback on delivery, I do that with everything before checking

Re: Just bought "OZ" complete seasons 1-6 from ebay, Ist it authentic?

Nero,

The photos on e-Bay you linked too are as follows:

Picture 1 - showing the outer boxes (Genuine, taken from any number of legit websites!)

Picture 2 - showing the internal packaging and artwork (100% Bogus! The "OZ" boxsets don't have internal packaging like that at all!)

The link shown here is to a UK-based company that also sells a PIRATED edition of the "Oz: Seasons 1-6 Complete Series Boxed Set" too. As you can see, the Chinese menus and subtitles are the give-away that it's dodgy!

My guess is you've been sent pirated discs! Like others have said, it's best not to buy DVD boxed sets from e-Bay, because the risk is so high of being sent a dodgy fake/pirated set, and you've got little success of getting the matter rectified.

The complete box picture was what I was sent, with a plastic dvd wallet thingy inside

The item number was 290132173276 not sure if you can see it if you try looking in ebay, but would have thought so

tris

EDIT: I guess I'm a bit worried about some form of retaliation, as this guy has my name and address.

So is it worth the hassell by risking sending it back to a po box address and not getting a refund or should I just cut my losses?

How did you pay Tris? You could start a Paypal claim if you paid that way for goods not as described (in that they are not genuine).

I would send an email first and see what he says.

I paid £51.98 all inc. via paypal, and just noticed right at the bottom of the ad in small letters that the set comes in one box set

Just checked that listing mate and it seems he offers a return policy (as many bootleg sellers do to avoid heg feedback). So returning shouldnt be a problem as long you ask for a actual address to send it to, not the PO boc.

Sadly you will be responsible for return postage, even if you file a Paypal claim.

As with most ebay deals, if its too good to be true it probably is .

I wouldnt worry about retaliation, would be a bit OTT.

Ok. I have sent the guy a messege explaining my findings, and also that I wouldnt feel comfortable having to return the discs beofre a refund is issued.

I have also asked him his views on the set as to why they are only 4.35gb in size and have no region encodeing if he believes that they are actually genuine.

So I'll now have to wait and see if he replies.

I see the same guy is also selling a pirate complete Angel set. His "Buy It Now" price is higher than Amazon's price for the genuine article.

Its quite possible he believes they are genuine, alot of people find these "dropshipping" sites which sell these sets cheap and they may believe they are genuine.
Sadly I cannot see a refund being issued before you send it back. I would suggest asking if he has a residential address for you to send it to and then send be some tracked mean (Recorded/Special).
