What programs are filmed in HD, for non SKY HD / VIRGIN V+ users ?.

Just got my Samsung LE37R87BDX yesterday and although we don't have a HD receiver (SKY or Virgin), Watching CSI Miami last night on the new TV It was amazing quality and obviously filmed in HD.

I was wondering what other programs are filmed in HD thats available on normal sky or freeview ?.

Sorry if this has already been answered, i'm a newbie.

Most of the US Network shows and a good majority of the US cable/satellite shows are sent to the UK from HD masters, the main difference with Five is that they are the best "terrestrial" broadcaster in terms of PQ on Dsat and the CSI series is as a whole shot for effect.
US imports on say E4 or ITV2/3/4 are HD but thanks to the broadcast resolution and bitrate are not impressive.

HD production is more demanding than SD both in set design and lighting/effects and so even a SD master will look better as it is created from a higher spec source.

I missed the film, but about a month ago I did see BBC Three with Kill Bill Vol 1 advertised as HD.

I taped on my dvd recorder, but obviously that is just SD, although the picture was very solid, with better than usual picture quality, however it might have just been a good night.

I know they did some test a while back, but was under the impression HD was going to be available until analogue was switched off everywhere, which as I understand will still take a few years yet.

I've seen a few HD dvd's on ebay but none in any high street stores yet, anyone know who sells them ?.

I gave up hope after I went in to WH Smiths asked for HD DVD's and was pointed to the blank DVD CD-R , CD-RW section.

Will it be HD though, the CSI Miami I saw that looks like HD quality, ? as on another forum i've been told if you don't have a HD receiver (SKY or Virgin), or a HD DVD player, I can't view HD.

Both Virgin and HMV have them in their stores, but don't forget you will need a HD DVD player to play them

HD DVD (and Blu-ray) are proper HD disks and need a HD player to view them, they UK versions can be seen in Asda, HMV etc etc.
The market for HD is still very small in the UK and as always online is the way to go both for selection and price plus importing movies and you will also need a HD display to make the most of them

Five broadcast SD at very good quality on satellite and that combined with the production choices of the CSI franchise and that the PAL source is taken from a HD master means you are getting the best broadcast SD you can.
It is not HD though, for native HD you need SKY HD, V+ (or other HD receiver) or a optical disk based system such as HD DVD(Toshiba) or Blu-ray (SONY etc).

As Starburst says, the majority of Ch5 programming looks amazing, especially Prison Break, which i think is one of the best quality programmes from a SD source; it rivals a well upscaled DVD
