Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

Catch this excellant film on C4 at the stupidly late 11.40 - or vid' it more's the like, thy knows!
This is what RT sais anyhoo,

Jim Jarmusch’s quirky crime drama creates a world in which humour exists solely in the eye of the beholder. Forest Whitaker is perfect as a bushido-obsessed hit man who communicates with his boss by pigeon. The outbursts of explosive violence tend to spoil the absurdist ambience.

I'd disagree with the complaint considering the story, tut. One of the old gangste(a)rs is a classic trendy vicar who has to be seen to be believed. And Forest Whitaker is supreme in his handling of the role along with music to suit the mood. Plus his confidant ice cream vendor mate moments are gems to savour.

personally I couldn't stand this pretensious tosh, but the mobster doing a moose impression was surreal to say the least. This film did make me ask the question "how did anyone get this movie funded".

I thought it was excellent myself. 50+ year old goodfellas banging out those badboy Public Enemy rhymes cracked me up, the whole film just seemed to flow superbly well.

One man's meat is another man's murder, I guess.

Hi,

I liked the film a lot. I think that it had a lot going for it, as long as you aren't expecting either a lengthy martial arts film, or a huge shoot-em-up, as you will be severly disappointed.

If anyone is intending getting the DVD at anytime, buy the Region 1 version. Loads more extras, including documentaries, behind the scenes stuff, et al, and a DD5.1 soundtrack. Plus, its Anamorphi 16:9!

The R2 edition is just plain old DD2.0 Surround, with a widescreen image that's a tad grainy (in my opinion).

Cool

I thought it was a good film and is at least watching once I preferred it to A Clockwork Orange last night. SPOILER I could not get why he acted honourable to his boss, when his boss was dishonourable and let himself be!
Then again

SPOILER for Garrett:

As his boss's Samaurai it was not his place to judge, only to serve out of debt and moreover his honour. The end is the most annoying as he allows himself to be killed. Although he does so to preserve his honour whilst, knowing that the girl is the next true and honourable code follower who'll see things right. Patience in all things.

So much for being able to carry on fighting even if his head becomes severed from his body.

That'll teach him to believe everything he reads in books

I picked this up at Play for £6.99 a few months ago. Bloody bargain! Top movie Only marred by the slight typo in one of the subtitles when he's talking to his French-speaking ice cream ami (look out for it )

Considering the word spoiler is there, I think it's safe to assume that most who haven't seen it would stop and think, "Hum, he placed the word spoiler before answering someones' question. Better stop as I aint seen it and it sais SPOILER"
If Boink, you see a sign warning of traffic/electric shock etc. do you complain and proceed risking hazard to self just because it doesn't mention you by name? Evolution

Just watched this.. should have been called "Dog Turd: The way of stepping in it"

Utter dross... not even worth renting.. Dull, Forest cannot act.

Leon is a much better hitman film (that and John Woo's The Killer)
