Question When did Bravo get so good?

Bravo used to be a niche channel full of let's say less than quality series, plenty of soft porn and every now and again a few decent movies. But now it still has fantastic programming, in fact some of the best new shows premiering this season.

Bravo has the terrific "the unit", just finished showing the awesome "Blade - the TV series" and to add to that "daybreak" which is a top quality thriller/drama. So when did Bravo get so good? Sky one's certainly missed picking up some real gems here!

Re: When did Bravo get so good?

SKY1 programme buyers should be shot for the shows they have passed on over the last few years although I suspect the budget simply wasn't there to get all the significant ones the failure with LOST, Supernatural, Prison Break and Heroes is not what we have come to expect from them.

Hats off for getting Bones, a sleeper hit for the channel.

If Bravo went fully anamorphic widescreen they would be pretty damn good for genre entertainment, their Dog isn't overly intrusive and of course they show UFC

Also not forgetting that Bravo is owned by Virgin Media I dont doubt that VM are on a mission to get as many quality programs and outbid SKY as much as possible

No it doesn't.
The Flextech bundle is totally dependent upon the money from nearly 8.4 million SKY subscribers, it simply can not exist with advertising revenues and cable carriage unless it's run at a loss which kinda defeats the point.

The fact VM own Flextech really means nothing, they are not investing in content for an assault on the traditional broadcast format but are pimping VOD as the successor to normal channels and at this time that carries very little UK premiere content.

Re: When did Bravo get so good?

I just couldn't get into Blade...it was screamin out for a widescreen transmission. When are the rest of the channels gonna catch up with the 21st century? Channels like sci fi, Barvo, Hallmark, FX & Living have so much widescreen content that is either cropped to 4.3 or floats in a rectangle in the middle of th screen - not to mention the UKTV channles and TCM...

Re: When did Bravo get so good?

The UKTV channels are now in widescreen - at 10 days ago I found I didn't have to adjust the screen ratio.

Blade was shown in a widescreen format which in itself was a bonus considering Bravo usually only shows 4:3 content. So personally I was grateful that it was shown in an none anamorphic widescreen picture. Never less the quality of the show was very high and it's a shame you couldn't get past bravo's shortcomings.

I do understand where you are coming from because I didn't watch heroes on sci-fi because of its lack of widescreen and knowing that it's coming to the BBC this summer. Blade however wasn't a certainty. Anyway if you're a fan of Blade(1&2) and love quality drama you had better pick up the DVD when it's eventually released. Blade is definitely an excellent series well worth owning.
