That was for those who do not have the DVD.
Is the film on DVD 2.35:1?

It's channel 5. Widescreen is not an option.
Except for the adverts

It's OAR is 2.35:1 though. But looking at the fullscreen trailer on TV it looks like it was shot so the 4:3 transfer opens up the top and bottom of the frame (giving extra pic info) but cuts off the sides. That's super-35mm isn't it? Same as they did for LOTR?

Not that it makes much diff, it's still less picture than it should be.

Yeah, I understand.

Also, you should look around on-line e.g. richer sounds, empiredirect, avland etc as Dolby digital/dts amps are available at some pretty good prices.

I'd rather dust off my old Sammy 709, pop the DVD in and watch it stutter through the no-so-seamless branching through a composite connection than watch it on Channel Five.

A moderate view don't you think?

Did they show them on five?

Yes, they are cut from the R2 (but only the UK R2, not other R2s). The cut meant that both the commentary and the isolated score had to be taken off the DVD because they didn't sync!

So I bought the R4 from CD-WOW.com for a tenner They do the R1 now for the same price ... http://www4.cd-wow.com/detail_result...duct_code=1955

Typical, the censorship in the UK is complete crap, to censor a dvd with an age rating that prohibits its sale to minors but allow the full film to be shown on TV where anyone can see it...

The cutting of The Matrix was entirely down to Warners, they were offered a higher rating but they chose to cut the film and go for a lower rating and a bigger audience.

The terrestrial broadcast was zoomed in to a ratio barely wider than 4:3, Trinity didn't break the arm of the cop that was trying to handcuff her (censored by channel 5 as it was a bit too violent for so close to 9.00 I'd imagine) but all the headbutts were left intact, which was nice.

Sometimes it's all too easy to forget how good a film is

What annoys me is that a 15 should have been more than sufficient for The Matrix as it was originally submitted. Who in their right mind apart from the BBFC would think that those few headbutts deserve an 18 rating? The violence isn't even realistic!

I bet those members of Joe Public who don't check places like dvdcompare.org.uk and happened to watch it on five last night were thinking "Eh? That bit ain't in my DVD. Must be the Director's Cut they're showing"

A few weeks ago, I told my mate that his R2 copy was censored and he did his nut. Before that he was babbling on about how pointless it was getting a multiregion DVD player

When are the sequels due?

Hi,

Just to be annoying and to throw a proverbial cat amongst the pigeons...

... "The Matrix": one of the WORST sci-fi films ever committed to celluloid! And one of the most unoriginal films as well!

You forgot to add the most important part of that.....

"in my opinion"

I'd forgotten just how many films walked that well-trodden path before it, especially the ones using the same ground-breaking SFX.

Well, it entertains me anyway.

It is uncut and identical to the R1 in terms of extras etc. Some have reported that the R4 has the best transfer too (over the R1). It certainly looks great to me anyway
