24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo? (SPOILERS)

Guys,

Don't get me wrong, I am a MASSIVE 24 fan but I am not getting "day 6" at all!

Script is predictable, characters have lost a certain "believeability" and the storyline is just too crazy to be taken seriously.

I mean episode 7, Jacks dad killing Gray (his son) to protect his and the companies interests........ utter nonsense!

Even Jack's character seems to have something missing, can't explain it, but I thought "day 5" was far superior (better script).

Anyone else agree or do you think I am mad???

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

hmmmm after waiting for so sodding long for day six, i see your point..... I do think that jack is well played though, he was (or at least to me was) really struggling with torturing his brother.....

cant believe that they only had one hour of it last night, that and the exhaustive adverts, drive me nuts!

ill still keep watching it, as like all the others, is is likely to turn everything on its head, and totally keep me guessing!

I like it.....

Yeah, I think day 6 started off very good but the last 3 episodes seem to lacking to me.

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

I thought that the opening episodes for day 5 (from the assination of President Palmer), was much more gripping. I watched eps 5,6 and 7 together last night and thought that i wasnt really into it as much as i have been before.

HOWEVER, its still great tv and i have always found that the tension goes up and down during the season (did anyone else sigh when Kim Bauer was kidnapped for the 20th time in Day 1 ?). I'm just waiting for the next lift / twist / turn. It's never been too far away before.

Exclamation Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

HI,

I have to confess, that "24" does appear to not be as good as I've come to expect.

The first 2-3 episodes of Day 6, were - in my opinion - some of the weakest that Fox has ever produced, in the entire history of the show. Episode 4, was great, especially the ending. But, since then, I do feel like "Day 6" has started to become rather silly, too far-fetched (even within the realms of a show like "24"), and seems to be forcing bad events to happen, just to keep viewers hooked.

POTENTIAL DAY 6 SPOILER - Don't read if you haven't been following the Sky 1 transmissions!
The introduction of Morris, Chloe's computer-geek boyfriend, who's a completely annoying tit, in my view, and now we discover his kid brother's dying in hospital from radiation poisoning, is just one "event" too far! And now, Graham/Gray, Jack's brother (played by actor Paul McCrane) who was a villain in Season 5, and now is revealed to be Jack's brother, just seems farcical to me! END OF SPOILER!

It's like, the writers have decided to do a: "how can we put Jack in peril this week" kind of thing, and it's getting annoying!

I have to confess, that unless Day 6 improves, and rapidly, then I'm not going to bother with any future "Day's"!

Maybe it's time to give Jack Bauer (and the CTU staff) some much-needed time-off, to rest and recuperate, as well as the creators and writers of the show?!

My apologies, Garrett. This was a mis-understanding of the rules by me.

The event i commented on has been referred to a few times in Day 6, but i'll err on the side of caution in future.

Out of interest, since this thread is about day 6, i assume that we can discuss events that have been shown on the usual sunday night Sky transmission ? I'm just trying to understand the spoiler rules of the forum.

Cheers

Yes I feel the same. It's as if this one has been rushed and the quality is suffering as a consequence

PoochJd, in regard to Maurice:

His brother isn't dying in hospital of radiation poisoning, it was a ruse to get him outside of CTU

I quite like him, actually.

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

I'm progressively more disappointed with 24 as each season unfolds.

Day 1 was, to me, an absolute masterpiece of television. Cleverly plotted, good cliffhangers, and an almost total lack of ridiculous sub-plots* (Terri's amnesia aside). More importantly, the biggest scale incident was the plane blowing up in the second episode.

In Day 6, we've already had a nuke blowing up in LA, killing somewhere in the region of 15,000 people instantly. Frankly, that's bloody ridiculous, and has ruined the show for me. Five times as many casualties as 9/11, and yet everyone just seems to be cracking on with things and trying to catch the terrorists. It's just lazy on the part of the writers to not try and portray just how colossal an incident like this would actually be in the wider world.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the original series of 24 was firmly rooted in reality. Each following series has been progressively more like a cartoon, until we reach this, which is a real nadir. It'd be okay if 24 had always been this preposterous, but it clearly hasn't...once upon a time, it seemed so real as to make you think that it could be taking place as you watched. I'd prefer to watch a show like that than this current nonsense.

That's not to say I get no enjoyment from the show - just that it could be so much more, and if it continues down this road, it's going to actually become unwatchable.

All my own opinion, of course, and you may disagree, but surely someone else has thought it's getting a bit silly now??

*mild spoilers comparing Day 1 and Day 6 plots follow in this section.

Watched and very much enjoyed day 5. Watched first 3 eps of day 6 and gave up. I really struggled to stop laughing at the storyline and script.

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

6 does seem to be taking itself too seriously whilst at the same time being utterly fromage. It feels as if a committee sat down and decided on why the public have enjoyed previous series and then painted it by numbers. The acting is only missing Hugh Grants devine touch.

I agree entirely with everything you've said. Totally farcical - the decision to reveal Paul Crane as jack's bro is the straw that broke the camel's back for me, they've tried to be clever by having him use the principle "I was doing it for the good of my country" to provide a mirror image of Jack, but it just seems wrong to me.

Think I'll go back and watch season 1 again...

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

I disagree that it has been getting worse as it goes from season to season. I thoroughly enjoyed day 5 and some of the episodes in it were as gripping as any from the previous days - and some were pants.

Every single season has had its ups and downs, but i do have a bad feeling about this one. The storyline around Curtis is just plain silly bearing in mind the amount we knew about him from previous seasons.

My own indicator is that the in past times i would spend the first 10-20 mins of each monday morning with a fella from the office about the sunday show. This season we have only spoken for 2 mins in total and that was about curtis.

I think i'm correct in saying that they start to screen the show whilst they are still recording the later part of the season and maybe some viewer feedback from the first few episodes might give them a kick up the backside.

I think Day 6 is still very addictive, but your right in the respect that it is disappointing this season. It was always pretty unbelievable, and none more so than this latest season.

Still top quality television though, and I'd never miss it.

One of the first things that made me laugh and suspect it was all going downhill was a couple of series ago when Jack's daughter suddenly changed from a childminder being kidnapped every 5 minutes to being a computer expert at CTU

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

24 Day 6 has started to get pretty poor for me also, maybe the writers just can't think of anything good anymore and their just turfing out any old garbage because people will watch it cos it's 24.

All we need now is for Kim Bauer to turn up in the next few hours to really annoy me.

Must have done a lot of cramming
To me Kim was only really eye candy, annoying eye candy mind you.

The voice of opinion seems to be that Day 6 is poorer than previous days but we're all still watching ! The plot has been a bit nutty in parts but it's still good telly

The thing annoying me is that we have yet another presidential conspiracy, we've had that every series and we've seen every shock and twist possible within the confines of that type of storyline yet they're trotting it out again

I love 24 and don't want to see it slow down to a crawl with cliches and rehashes.

Bring back Kim for the eye candy it would give us something to watch, Jack doesnt do anything for me lol. How many times have we seen a storyline featuring terrorists, bombs and attacks on presidents its all to repetative now but still good viewing cause of its fast storylines etc.

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

I really liked season 1.

The concept of 24 was really there...

Shots included clocks in the background set to the 'correct' 24 time....

An episode would consist of a character driving somewhere and it took them a whole hour, so they'd split the screen to show them driving while something else happened at the same time.

Now everything seems to happen much more quickly, characters get across the city in impossible time frames.

I keep thinking/hoping that there is an underlying story arc tying in events from previous seasons little things that were mentioned.... but they seem to have been dropped... Season 1 Spoiler - Nina and the "german" connection etc

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

Very predictable and just more of the same plots being repeated again and again. Different person being kidnapped, different person plotting against the president, people still able to make dodgy evil calls from CTU on a mobile phone without anyone intercepting them !!

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo?

Have to agree with whats been said...

Jacks back...only just though... and maybe he needs a holiday this time round.

I thought seasons 3 & 4 dipped a bit here and there as you'd expect...but S5 was rock solid pretty much the whole way through.

S5 just seemed to be so well written it's prob my fav apart from the first...

.... the awesome dodgy president, no Kim Vs Wile E Coyote situations and a brilliant way of making you assume they were heading off into one predictable scenario before hoodwinking you and wrapping it up at the end of an episode rather than dragging it on and on...and still leaving you guessing for what more was to come..

S6 just doesn't seem to have the same gusto...it's just seems by the numbers this time round...

Or maybe we've all been too spoilt on the other good offerings this time round...

Heroes, Dexter, Prison Break and BSG to name just a few, seem to have been consistently better this time round...even blinkin House is still going strong.

....that's not say i'm gonna stop downloading it any time soon though....!

Re: 24 Day 6 - Anyone else think it's poo? (SPOILERS)

[QUOTE=Mighty Chipster;4292519]Guys,

Script is predictable, characters have lost a certain "believeability" and the storyline is just too crazy to be taken seriously.

Has 24 not always been like that after about season 4?
