Blakes 7 - Season 4 (slight spoilers).

I am in the process of watching through my Blakes 7 DVDs not having seen the series for 15 years or so and have to say Seasons 1 to 3 are as good as I remember

Terrible acting, poor visuals and cheap sets are compensated for nicely by decent stories and an ongoing story arc. However having just got to Season 4 I can't help but feel how 'naff' it is. The music has been ruined, the Liberator gone, most of the original characters departed, the graphics have been 'glossed' up making it just look tacky and the majority of the stories are rubbish. What went wrong?

Cool Re: Blakes 7 - Season 4

Although the same piece of music for the theme tune I found it rather strange that they took a backward step from what sounded something semi-orchestral to something like an electric organ.
But as in most theme tune original best, later variations screw-ups.

As for the ship they got maybe 3 stories associated with the change, but the ship was part of the team as much as the Tardis is to Doctor Who.

Personally, I liked the new ship far better than the Liberator.

I think the design of the Liberator was fairly unique, I remember having a game on the computer Starship Command and Im sure one was the Liberator, whereas if the put the Scorpio in that I would not have noticed it.

Re: Blakes 7 - Season 4 (slight spoilers).

Aaargh no, the Scorpio was a slow freighter souped up with a bit of weaponry. No match for the Federation.

Liberator wins everyday. Slave was no substitute for Zen either!

Only good thing about series 4 was Soolin. Glynis Barber.... Aaaaah....

Didn't series 4 include the episode where Avon was looking to throw Villa out of an airlock to stop a ship from dropping out of orbit. I seem to recall Villa crying with fear - things were never the same between them after that ep.

Yep Blakes Seven. I can still remember my mum asking what I had done with her hot hair curling brush with the curly flex. It was of course my gun!

What went wrong you ask ....

the morris marina
brown cordroys
vextrex
toffos
austin allegro
cheggers plays pop
my brother (1974)
arsenal being ****
austin princess

they are all the reasons the series went wonky

basically the 1970's were **** and due to the above mentioned things we all lost the will to do things properly

Re: Blakes 7 - Season 4 (slight spoilers).

Gareth Thomas used to drink in the same pub as me in the early 90's, never wanted to speak about Blakes 7 unless he had about 5 pints in him (which he often did!)

He wasn't a great fan of series after he left either !

The episode was Orbit and there was only 2 more episodes after that. The problem was a piece of very heavy material had been planted on the ship, and to stop them falling to back to the planet, Avon and Villa striped everything out of the ship, the ship was still too heavy and Avon asked the computer how much over weight the ship was to reach escape velocity, and then he asked if there was anything that fit the bill, the answer was Villa.
