SKY ONE - Stargate Atlantis (wed 31st showing)

this is just a small thing that bugs me ...

in all episodes when not "away" they all have their individual countries flag on the shoulders

so Dr. Carson Beckett has the "St. Andrew" flag as he is scotish

but when there are english people they use the "union jack" flag

this winds me up as if carson has his individual nations flag then english people should have the "cross of st. george"

ive even seen the german flag upside down

this week when Dr. Rodney McKay is sitting in the throne chair thing rerouting things in the background you see a person with the union jack flag but later on you see carson with the st. andrew flag

anyone have the slightes idea why

i know shows like this and star trek are very carefull over continuety (sp) but this has been going on since series 3

Re: SKY ONE - Stargate Atlantis (wed 31st showing)

It could be a number of reasons.
1) The producers know no better.
2) They do and decided to do it this way.
3) The scientists are individuals and can choose their own flags.
4) They producers watched a major English sporting event and believed that as there were almost all Union flags and the British anthem was sung then they believe that Scots, Welsh and Irish are more inclinded to be independent and only be seen as British second while the English see themselves as British.

Looking at the political landscape you can see the same thing thanks to the promotion of national assemblies everywhere except England.

Re: SKY ONE - Stargate Atlantis (wed 31st showing)

Not watched this weeks Atlantis yet, won't be able to stop myself looking out for flag continuity

Also on a similar note, anyone noticed Jack's continued promotion/demotion between 2 star and 1 star general.

The number of stars on his shirt changes from scene to scene, also happened in the Atlantis episode he appeared in. Does my head in, not hard is it really ? Rant over

Re: SKY ONE - Stargate Atlantis (wed 31st showing)

cheers people for agreeing with me on this

i love scotland, wales & n.ireland (and the irish but they are not envolved in this uk thing) but it winds me up, id like us all to have our own flags

but probably just dumb yanks like they got the german one upside down

i mentioned this on tv.com and got slated as a racist!

also a quick question, they mentioned that jack had spent 6 months with the ancients, now ive not missed an episode but can somone remind me when that happend?

cheers

I also noticed this and I though it was funny.
They probably filmed different scenes at different times and he must have been wearing the wrong jacket at one filming sesion.

Spoilers
So u think they did the Ori in?

I thought I'd missed something too.

But then I remembered the episode where:

SG-1 found an energy field inside a cave, jack was drawn through and then the rest of the team realised that time was moving faster on the other side.
Jack eventually found a village on the other side of the cave system. The villagers were ancients on the verge of ascension and he helped give them the push that they needed to fully asdend. IIRC there was also some sort of monster in the woods around the village.
He'd been away a couple of days in real time, but months in village time.

HTH.

McNab,

Think that was Shepard not Oniell.

Could it be the time he spent frozen in Antartica ?

You're right. I remember the episode, but I couldn't place the rest of SG-1 in it in my mind, so was a bit unsure.

As sleepyone says, are you sure you had the right bloke.

Had a bit of a look on TV.com and someone asked the same but attributed it to shepard.

The episode was called epiphany which is the one I was thinking of. Linky

Jack did spend 100 days stranded on a planet with a bunch of peasents learning a new way of life and they say originality is dead

Agreed, there have been a few variations on that theme (lost Col./time bubble) e.g. Jack and Maybourne stuck on a moon for weeks on end, the ep you mentioned "100 days", the Replicators being stuck in a time bubble on the Asgard home world.
