Re: BBC 1 - Five Days

good im not on the wonk

and the fact that the police man was asking the army bloke to go see the father of 2 was even weirder

and why call it 5 days when it was over 80 odd days!

maybe as it was on for 5 days

I initially read that each episode was spread over one day, although not 5 days consequtivley (obviously), similar to '24', but i'm sure this was not the case as some episodes feature 'overnight' scenes, like in the last one.

Which leads me to the question of what was the point in portraying the Police Chief as a drunken slappa at her retirement do?

This and the other plot holes mentioned has left me baffled and a bit dissapointed in the outcome.

Re: BBC 1 - Five Days

I could have done with it being called 10 days in the hope I'd understand by the end!

Re: BBC 1 - Five Days

i kept thinking the head police man (liked the stars) was gay

then that the way the army bloke and the dad of 2 were looking at each other that they might have been gay

to sum it up id say it was a good idea but was strung out too much so that cracks appeared and for me ruined it

Start at the begining, So did the mum have a argument or something with the flower seller, and the the van pulled up with the paedo, and he happened to know the flower seller, she got hit by mistake or something and they put her in the van, and then in the river later, but she was alive before she drowned??? im lost. Ok. (spoiler) The way I saw it was that the woman had a go at the Betts guy who was already in the van, as he was also using the van to sell knockoff stuff (ciggies). The macedonian guy then hit her and she fell and cracked her head. They panicked and bundled her into the van thinking she was dead.

So when the guy picked up the kids, he was actually telling them the complete truth!

The boy escaped when the dog bit him, but the girl stayed with the mum in the caravan.

The army guy knew the macedonian from his tour in Yugoslavia (possibly made the contacts to sell the ciggies etc). They went to him for help. He put her in the river, possibly knowing she was still alive (barely).

I guess the army guy then killed the macedonian (though they never really revisited that).

That is what I thought anyway...

Re: BBC 1 - Five Days

I cant disagree that elements of the storyline were confusing and or unexplained. On balance though I still thought it was one of the best Dramas produced by the Beeb for some time. The plot may have had a few holes but generally it was very well written, directed acted and produced. Compared with some of the dreadful writing we see on programmes like Eastenders it was a masterpiece. I agree with the comment regarding the portrayal of the female Detective at her leaving party though, it really jarred.

once they have a few drinks down em..... , some people lose the plot, so its very feasible.

Re: BBC 1 - Five Days

I also thought that the reason that the army guy was encouraging the dad to visit the paedo to "ask questions", was that he might kill him, since the paedo was the only one left that knew the army guy was involed. BUT then when they finally met the army guy was still around and the paedo gave the game away. Why did the army guy hang around for that ?

And why did the army guy help the paedo in the first place ? he wasnt really implicated, massively in the ciggy thing and this was his mate's wife !!!!???

Anybody know if this series will be repeated at any times on any of the other BBC channels? As I missed the first episode of this and as such never bothered watching the rest

'Five Days 2', returns with a new story on BBC One at 9pm from Monday 1 to Friday 5 March 2010.

Quote:

Plot - hidden

> A tiny newborn baby is abandoned in the toilets of a Yorkshire hospital. At the same time, the Trans-Pennine commuter train is halted by a suicidal jumper – are they connected?

From this moment on, the lives of those on board the train and in the hospital will be changed irrevocably, not least for DC Laurie Franklin (Suranne Jones), off-duty that day but travelling on the train with her mum, Jen (Anne Reid), who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Laurie likes tying up loose ends. And, if she can prove a connection between the body and the baby, she will be happy. But things never turn out quite the way we expect. Who is the baby's mother? And who is the jumper? And was it a suicide – or was it really a murder? As Laurie is drawn deeper into the mystery, she realises this might not be a simple case at all, but something much darker.
<

"I wanted to write something which featured police officers as they are, as human beings with their own preoccupations and their own humour," says writer Gwyneth Hughes.

"My father was a uniformed constable in the Metropolitan Police and I rarely see any cops on the telly that I recognise!

"But, although we see a lot of coppers in Five Days, it's not at heart a crime series – it's a multi-layered mystery and all the characters have a part to play in unravelling the puzzle. The format helps here because it challenges the audience to keep up with an investigation which is jumping ahead all the time.

"The inspiration for the second series of Five Days came from lots of ideas I was having about our national identity in modern Britain. I wanted to write about Yorkshire because that's where I live and it's the community I know and love. A lot of Muslims live here and I wanted to write about their lives, too.

"I wanted Muslim characters living richer, fuller lives with issues and concerns that we all face – for example my couple unable to have children. Though I didn't want to avoid the problem of violent extremism, I did want to see it from inside their family experience."

Gwyneth Hughes's Five Days 2 is an atmospheric ensemble drama – a mystery which unfolds over the five most significant days of the police investigation into these two mysteries. It is set in the heart of urban Yorkshire – a melting pot of tensions and relationships within a multicultural landscape.
